Let me introduce you to the Primary Class:
Our classrooms are customized and made up of learners ages 5 to 9. We meet each learner with instruction based on their learning needs and styles. Much of our instruction comes during small group time. Learners are grouped in a variety of ways. Depending on the content to be learned, small groups are formed based on academic needs, social needs, interests, or age level. Groups can change or stay the same depending on needs and scheduling requirements. Needs are based on formal and informal assessments.
Our goal is to provide your child with the best possible learning experience. We believe that every child learns at a different pace and when brains are ready to grow. This customized setup allows each child to be challenged without getting frustrated. We use high quality assessments to show what each learner has mastered. Because each learner is unique, the time spent in our classroom can vary. We allow for 3-4 years of learning for each child to master the skills needed to be successful in future learning environments.
Communication is important. More information will be sent by mail before the start of the school year. If you have any questions prior to then, please contact the school office at (605) 662-7254. During the school year, we will send weekly newsletters home on Thursday. This is best done via email, so please email us at your earlier convenience. You can also communicate with the Primary Class teachers via email at pam.koller@k12.sd.us or terri.brown@k12.sd.us
