Schedule
School hours are 7:50 AM -3:40 PM. The morning bell rings at 7:45. As stated in the elementary handbook, please do not have your child arrive before 7:40, as school supervision does not start until then, unless they are taking part in hot breakfast in the lunchroom. Students should be dropped off between the elementary door and the multi-purpose building. They can put their backpacks and belongings at the door between the elementary doors and the high school door. They will line up in homeroom lines and these lists will be posted. The bell will ring at 7:45 for the students to line up and prepare to enter the building.
Children look forward to sharing about their day. Please have someone outside the elementary doors to pick them up at 3:40 unless they are going to the YMCA Kids Stop after-school program. (Snacks, activities, and homework time is available for K-5th graders after school until 5:30. Families wanting to take part in this program need to sign up with the YMCA.)
Food services
Breakfast will be offered in the lunchroom from 7:30am-7:50am. There is a cost. Lunch cost is $3.70. Free and reduced application forms are included in your family packet from the office and may be applied to both breakfast and lunch. We will have lunch at 11:00am. The lunch menu will be listed on the school website http://edgemont.k12.sd.us.
We will have a daily milk/juice break. You may buy a milk in advance, pay daily, or just have your child drink water. ($.55 each, not included in the free and reduced program.) We have a snack time each day. One snack/day will be a fresh fruit or vegetable from the school. For our second snack, we will have learners provide snacks for our classrooms ( approximately 28 kids). This will be assigned each learner one week during the year. This information will be initially shared with you by the second week of the new school year. Then, we will send home a snack reminders in our weekly newsletter. We have a fridge available if you wish to send snacks such as cheese, yogurt, etc. Graham crackers, goldfish, pretzels, fruit snacks, and granola bars are also some inexpensive snacks that can help the kids get through the day!
Parent Helpers
If you need to come to school for your child or to drop off anything, you will need to use the main doors and check in at the school office. They are located in the middle of the long building (the entrance with the stairs). Ring the door bell for the doors to be unlocked for you.
There may be opportunities to help with the “goings on" in the classroom. Most communication on these events will be communicated through our weekly newsletter. We will also have special celebrations for holidays. Please let us know if you are willing to help with snacks for these special days.
Some important reminders
-Put your child’s name on each piece of outside clothing. (You would be surprised at all the clothing that piles up in the “Lost and Found” and is never claimed.) We will be going outside in most weather, so send snow clothes, gloves, boots, etc. when the weather gets cold!
-Have a set time to go to bed, get up, read, rest, and play that fits your child’s needs and school schedule.
-If your child is not wearing tennis shoes (or appropriate PE shoes) to school, please send a pair to have for PE each day. If leaving a pair at school, please mark them with your child's name. We do have a cart that houses these shoes in the gym.
