Florence High School Juniors and Seniors can take dual credit courses from any of the board of regents universities or technical colleges. In order to take these credits you must meet the minimum requirements set forth by the state of South Dakota and Florence School. Private institutions may offer dual credit opportunities as well, but costs my be different.
Currently, South Dakota sets Dual Credit costs at $78.48 per credit hour, plus any textbook costs. Students are billed for these courses and pay the schools directly.
Why would I take college courses in high school?
One reason is to save money. Per credit costs at public instititons (universities and technical colleges) can range anywhere from $180 to $360 a credit hour depending on the school and the type of course you are taking.

Challenge yourself
Lesson your credit load in college (maybe you want to play a sport or other extra curriculuar activity). Taking college classes in high school may allow you to take 12-13 credits in a semester instead of 15-16 credits.
Explore areas of possible interest to you while in high school.
Whatever you reason, make sure the classes you are taking will be accepted at the school you want to attend.
