Science Overview
This year in Science learners will learn and experience the content by talking, listening, watching, doing, and reflecting. Each of these parts will be done individually and collectively with peers over the course of the year.
Learners will learn about topics ranging across three different science categories: Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. Life science will include topics like cells and what makes living things "alive." Earth science will go over various cycles and patterns influencing the Earth's weather, water, and the surface of the Earth. Physical science will be all about matter and energy. Specifics include atoms, how matter behaves in certain situations and why it does that, and different forms of energy and the relationship they have with matter.
In 6th grade, we will primarily be talking about Earth Science. Specific topics include, but are not limited to various cycles and patterns influencing the Earth’s weather, water, surface of the Earth. Specific standards and units will cover Earth’s history, plate tectonics, rocks and rock cycle, ways that water influences weather and oceans, natural resources, and space.
