Hannah Dickson is a junior at Sanborn Central High School. She plays volleyball as a setter as well as playing in the back row. She is good at the positions she plays because she believes the coach trusts her to be in the spots, and she plays very well there. What keeps Hannah motivated is the fact that she wants to get better, so she continues to push herself to do her best. She likes volleyball because it's a team effort sport, and everyone has to work together in order to win the game. The one thing she doesn't like about volleyball, is that if one person is having a bad day, it will affect the whole team, and it shows during the games. That goes along with her one challenge that she has faced while playing this sport; that it's hard to play with people who do not care and try not to get down on herself when she messes up. Hannah has been working very hard in the specific sport since she was in the eighth grade. She has learned one thing from playing volleyball, and that is to always stay positive no matter what happens. Her sports role model happens to be Carli Lloyd, who is an American soccer player and plays for the Sky Blue FC team. Her biggest fear is mice because they creep her out and are gross. Teya Moody started the volleyball season as the libero for the Sanborn Central Blackhawks. There were four games before that changed. She stayed that way for the next couple of games getting 10 to 12 digs and 2 assists per game. Another girl had gotten COVID during the season, so Teya then became a setter starting on September 24 against Iroquois. When Cody isn’t playing football, he is either fishing out on the lake, or he is watching Tik-Tok all day.

Mason’s teammates kept him motivated in football. He enjoys the time spent with his teammates while playing football. Mason feels that football has taught him teamwork, self discipline, and work hard. Mason’s football role model is Chad Greenway. His biggest fear is losing, and he never wants to be in second place. Last year during basketball practice, he tore his ACL. This year he was injured during the first play of his second game. It was difficult for him, but as Mason’s true passion is rodeo, he made the difficult decision not to continue playing football in order to prevent more injuries to his knee which could prevent him from being able to rodeo. While this was hard for Mason, and he felt like he let his team down, he knew this is what he needed to do to follow his dreams.

Reed Senska, an outside and back row player, just started her high school volleyball career as a junior this year. After not playing volleyball since middle school, she is better than she thought she would originally be with only about two years of experience. The things that drive her to do her best are advancing her skills, staying in shape, and her mom, who is also her role model. The sport for her is overall fun and enjoyable which is another reason why she is playing. Reed tries her best everyday, sometimes she gets off track, but that helps to motivate her to work even harder than before. The worst part of volleyball for Reed is when she messes up during a game, because it can throw the whole thing off. She had realized that taking a break from sports and starting back up again would be a major setback, but volleyball has taught her to stay positive and to have a strong mental being. Even though she has a lot of thoughts on climate change, her biggest fear is death. Death is pretty scary in her words, but she does prefer Frozen 2 over the first one.
Along with school, Brady Larson keeps up his time on the field as well. Brady is a sophomore at Sanborn Central where he plays linebacker and fullback. Considering his spot, he believes that his working hard has paid off saying he is good at the sport he does. Brady says he's been playing the sport since the third grade, and has used his family, teammates, coaches, and the will to win to keep himself motivated during these years of playing. Brady's greatest challenge in the sport is having weak ankles, but his greatest fear is failing, saying he “doesn't want to let his teammates and coaches down.” Brady says this sport has taught him many things, from teamwork and discipline, to being coachable and having a good work ethic.
Brady had no thoughts on the recent climate change.

What Cooper likes about this sport is that “it's very fun and you get to hit people''. The one thing he doesn't like about it is that it is very tiring. He has been working hard in football since he has been playing for about five-to-seven years. Playing football has taught him to work hard and listen. His challenges were to learn how to keep up with everything and work hard. His sports role model is his uncle. Cooper’s biggest fear is heights because he thinks they are scary.
Kenlie Fridley, a sophomore, is a setter for volleyball. She has been playing this sport for six years. She is driven by her teammates, her friends, her family, and her coaches. Kenlie loves being with her friends and playing volleyball with them, but the worst part about the sport is when they lose, or when she messes up because she feels like she is disappointing her teammates. Her biggest role model is her dad. This sport has taught Kenlie that you have to have good communication skills and work together, but she has also realized that it causes weak ankles and weak nail bed due to playing for such a long time.
On another note, Kenlie has no thoughts about the terrifying climate change we are seeing, and she prefers to watch Frozen 2 over the first because she believes that it is better.
Lucy Nicholson, a Sanborn Central senior, started the volleyball game Tuesday, September 1st. She played for the front outside. This was the second time the team played Hanson. A loss for SCW the first time the teams met changed when they beat Hanson in three in the next game. One of the starters got a bloody nose and Lucy stepped in. She didn’t have any stats, but she helped block and was back up for the front row passers. She came out in the middle of the first set to cheer us on and keep us up in spirits!
Tryce Slykhuis, a junior at Sanborn Central, is the quarterback and free safety. He has been playing football since third grade. When asked “Would you say you are good at what you do? Why?” his response was, “Oh yeah!” The team helps him stay motivated when he is playing football which is one of the things he likes the most about football - being part of a team and working with each other; however, the thing he dislikes the most is having to tackle people. He said that the sport has taught him leadership and teamwork. Like his sports role model, Kobe Bryant, he states, "working hard every chance I get," is what has helped him get to where he is today.

In his free time he likes to watch football.
Dayton Easton is not only in the top of the junior class but carries on many extracurricular activities. Dayton plays volleyball, basketball, and participates in All-State Chorus and many competition choirs. Dayton plays outside hitter in volleyball and sometimes back row. She's been playing since the seventh grade.
Dayton believes, for the most part, that she is good at volleyball, but she claims that she struggles a little more in the front row as a hitter because she was normally a back row passer last year. Dayton has always wanted herself and her team to be the best they can, which is one of her main motivations along with having to earn her spot on the court. Dayton puts effort into her sports and works hard because without effort there would be no great team. Although she loves the sport, she dislikes the fact that it takes such a toll on her body, like achy muscles and backaches. Despite the sore legs, she believes it prepares her for much that will come in the real world. Dayton looks to the upperclassmen to mentor her. She says that the main thing this sport has taught her is that nothing comes without effort; work hard to achieve the things you want most. Dayton had to overcome being overlooked as a player. She worked very hard to get where she is today.
Oddly enough, Dayton did enjoy Frozen 1 much more than Frozen 2 and has many thoughts on the recent climate change.
