Swing Republic is a dynamic vocal jazz ensemble made up of 15 singers, ranging from newcomers to vocal jazz to seasoned veterans. Rehearsing twice a week, the group is committed to growing together while delivering high-energy, polished performances. Throughout the season, Swing Republic has performed and traveled to events such as Concordia Moorhead, Best of Show in Sioux Falls, B-Town Jazz, and the Optimist Jazz Festival. A highlight of their year is the music department’s annual showcase, A Flood of Jazz. Swing Republic is thrilled to share their charts with you today. 🎶
Smooth Spectrum is the veteran vocal jazz group at Brookings High School. Smooth Spectrum just started rehearsing in December, meeting one morning before school and one evening each week. Their first performance was January 31st at the Concordia Vocal Jazz Festival. The 2026 season also includes performances at the inaugural B-Town Vocal Jazz Fest in Brookings, the SDSU Optimist Jazz Fest, the BHS Spring and Pops Choir Concerts, and the annual Brookings High School Flood of Jazz Show. Nothin' But Treble is a 15 member, all-female vocal jazz group at Brookings High School. This group is made of a mix of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. NBT began rehearsals in December and meets two times a week outside of the school day. NBT is excited to perform today at Best of Show! They will also be seen performing at the SDSU Optimist Jazz Fest as well as our Spring and Pops Concerts, our own B-Town Vocal Jazz Festival and Brookings High School Flood of Jazz. We are thankful for the opportunity to perform this year!
VOX26 is Aberdeen Central High School's varsity vocal jazz ensemble. The group consists of SATB voices from grades 9-12 and rehearses roughly 3 hours per week. VOX travels to many competitions through the upper midwest and performs a variety of repertoire ranging from jazz to pop. Vocal Nation is Aberdeen Central High School's junior varsity vocal jazz ensemble. The group consists of treble voices from grades 9-12 and rehearses roughly 2 hours per week. Red White and Blues is enjoying their sixth season. They meet once a week outside of the school day for an 1'45" rehearsal. The group is comprised of 10-12th graders.
Jefferson High School Declaration is a group of 20 auditioned singers that compete around the midwest at various Vocal Jazz Competitions. This group consists of all juniors and seniors, and emphasizes the importance of learning the basics of jazz harmony and improvisation. They are directed by Rebecca Bartz, and they rehearse 20 minutes per day over the lunch hour at Jefferson High School.
5 Island Jazz is in its 11th year of existence at Emmetsburg High School. This year, they are composed of 15 singers ranging from grades 9-12, and are directed by Kyle Chieng. This group has had great successes in the past performing at the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships, and they hope to continue this tradition long into the future.
The Atlas Vocal Jazz is an auditioned ensemble open to all 9-12 choir members at Tea Area High School. The group performs a variety of music throughout the school year at various concerts and community events. This year they are competing at the Jefferson HS Cavalier Classic, Washington HS Best of Show, Aberdeen HS Center Stage, as well as jazz festivals at USD and SDSU.
