Brookings Swing Republic

Swing Republic is a dynamic musical group fueled by passion and dedication to the art of jazz. Their journey begins each year at the end of December, when they come together to practice twice a week, fine-tuning their skills, and cultivating a tight musical bond. As the jazz season unfolds, Swing Republic takes the stage at various notable events, showcasing their talent and love for the genre, from the first festival at Best of Show to the soulful SMV Vocal Jazz Festival and the lively Optimist Jazz Festival.


A crowning moment in Swing Republic's calendar is the Annual Flood of Jazz Show, a spectacular event that features the entire Music Department of Brookings High School. From the Jazz Bands to the Jazz Strings and the Vocal Jazz ensembles, the school's diverse musical talents unite for an unforgettable experience. 


Today marks an exciting moment for Swing Republic as they take the stage at their first festival of the season. Eager to share their passion for jazz, the group is ready to deliver a captivating performance, setting the tone for a season filled with musical magic. Brookings Smooth Spectrum

SMOOTH SPECTRUM is the veteran vocal jazz group at Brookings High School – all singers have had at least 1 year of vocal jazz experience. Smooth Spectrum just started rehearsing in December, meeting one morning before school and one evening each week. They are excited for their first performance here at Best of Show!  Their 2023 season also includes performances at the SVM Vocal Jazz Fest in Creston, Iowa, the SDSU Optimist Jazz Fest, the BHS Spring and Pops Choir Concerts, and the annual Brookings High School Flood of Jazz. Brookings Nothin' But Treble

Nothin' But Treble (NBT) is the Brookings High School all-female vocal jazz group. This group is comprised of girls in grades 9-12 who are selected by audition. They rehearse twice each week outside the school day from December through May. This year they will perform at the SMV Vocal Jazz Jazz Festival in Creston, IA, SDSU Optimist Jazz Fest, as well as Brookings Flood of Jazz, BHS Spring and Pops Concerts, and they are very excited to be performing at Best of Show!

Washington Jazz Singers

The Washington Jazz Singers are the varsity vocal jazz ensemble at Washington High School.  They are comprised of 20 singers and rehears dailey over the lunch period.  In addition to regular concerts and competitions, they serve as a community outreach ensemble performing at Kiwanis Club, Retired Teacher Club gatherings, Naturalization Ceremonies and other events.  They were chosen to perform at the 2021 SDACDA Winter Conference.  


Aberdeen Vox 24

Vox 24 is the premier vocal jazz ensemble at Central High School. Made up of sixteen mixed voices, students selected demonstrate strong vocal independence, reading ability, stylistic approach, and work ethic. The group auditions in the fall, and rehearses before and after school three times a week. Other performances include the SD-ACDA Midwinter Conference, Shake the Lakes, Best of Show, Emmetsburg Extravaganza, USD Jazz Fest, and the SDSU Optimist Jazz Festival. Vox would like to thank their family, friends, and of course the Aberdeen community for their constant support. 

Aberdeen Vocal Nation

Vocal Nation is the treble vocal jazz ensemble at Central High School. Made up of sixteen soprano/alto voices, students are selected based on musicianship and motivation. The group auditions in the fall, and rehearses twice a week outside of the regular school day. Performances this season include the SD-ACDA Midwinter Conference, Shake the Lakes, Best of Show, Emmetsburg Extravaganza, USD Jazz Fest, and the SDSU Optimist Jazz Festival. Vocal Nation would like to thank their family, friends, and of course the Aberdeen community for their constant support. 

Lincoln Red, White and Blues

Red, White, & Blues is the top vocal jazz ensemble at Lincoln High School. This is their 4th year of existence and they rehearse once a week outside the school day. All of their members are also involved in one of six select ensembles and a large choir at LHS.


East Side Vocal Jazz

East Side Jazz Singers is the soprano/alto vocal jazz ensemble from Sioux Falls Washington High School.  East Side Jazz Singers is composed of 15 singers ranging from sophomores to seniors.  They will perform Satelitte arr.Will Clements, What’ll I Do? Arr. Kirby Shaw, and Peroxide Swing arr. Steve and Sarah ZeGree.  They are excited to explore the different genres of vocal jazz.  East Side Jazz Singers will perform at SF Jefferson, SF Washington Best of Show, and Aberdeen Central.  They want to wish best of luck to all the performing groups today.

Sycamore Jazz Singers

The Sycamore Jazz Singers are one of three jazz ensembles at Washington High School.  They consist of 13 singers and rehearse dailey over the lunch hour.  They perform at regular concerts and at two competitons each year.  

Elk Point Jefferson Momentum

Momentum is the newly formed vocal jazz ensemble from Elk Point-Jefferson High School under the direction of Katelyn Brunick. The group is comprised of 16 mixed singers ranging from freshmen to seniors. They rehearse twice a week before school. Their 2023 season includes performances at EPJ Jazz Night, Sioux Falls Washington Best of Show, Coyote Jazz Festival, SDSU Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival, and our Spring Concert. The ensemble also performs a variety of music throughout the school year at various concerts. We are excited to perform for you today!
