Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, all high school juniors in South Dakota will be required to take the ACT. Testing dates and more information to come.
The ACT is required by many colleges for admission. The ACT has assessments for English, math, and reading, with optional science. There is a written component for an additional charge as well. Check with your potential colleges for requirements. See here for a detailed explanation of changes and enhancements to the ACT: ACT Changes and Enhancements
The ACT can be taken as many times as the student chooses. Colleges will typically use the student’s highest composite score. Some colleges and scholarships may use a "SuperScore," if it's been taken more than once.
College-bound students should take the ACT by December of their senior year in time for college admissions and scholarships.
The counseling office has ACT fee waivers for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Please see Ms. Walker.
