This branch of our club aims to bring Science and Engineering fairs straight to our school. It will allow students who don't already have a background in science fairs to practice and get use to the environment, while also fostering a pro-research environment at our school.
The purpose of the Mock Science Fair is to provide students with a practice environment to prepare their ISEF or other science fair projects, focusing on presentation skills, scientific communication, and constructive feedback rather than awards. There will be no awards or rankings, and participation is entirely free, with no entry fees required. The fair will likely be judged by interested parents and teachers from the school or district, and the audience will include other students, teachers, and parents who wish to observe and learn.
Students can submit a project abstract or brief description ahead of the fair, and projects may be completed individually or in teams. On the day of the fair, students will set up their posters, boards, and demonstrations, ensuring that any technical equipment is tested beforehand. During the presentation, each student or team will explain their research question, hypothesis, methodology, results, and conclusions, as well as potential future directions or improvements. Judges will provide constructive feedback on clarity of explanation, scientific reasoning, creativity, and overall presentation skills. No scores or rankings will be assigned; the emphasis is entirely on learning and improvement.
At the end of the fair, judges may hold a Q&A session to discuss general tips for science fairs, allowing students to gather insights and consider suggestions for refining their projects for future competitions.
The exact date and location of the Mock Science Fair are currently to be determined (TBD). Once these details are finalized, students will be able to register for the event through a Google Form, which will be shared with all interested participants. Additional information, including setup instructions and schedule, will be provided at that time.
