The exact date is TBD but the mock fair will occur sometime in January 2026.
The Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GARSEF) is scheduled for February 21-22, 2025. The fair includes project set-up on February 21st and judging and awards on February 22nd.
The Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is held annually in May. In 2026, it will take place from May 9-15 in Phoenix, Arizona.
At the Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GARSEF), students present their science or engineering projects, which they've worked on independently. They showcase their research process, findings, and conclusions through a display board and are available to discuss their work with judges and attendees. The fair also includes judging, awards ceremonies, and opportunities for students to explore other projects.
1. Project Development: Students conduct independent research following either the scientific method or the engineering design process. This involves choosing a topic (it can be any topic you want: ranging from biochemistry to robotics), formulating a hypothesis or design, conducting experiments or building a prototype, collecting and analyzing data, and drawing conclusions.
2. Project Presentation: Students create a display board to visually present their project, including key information about the research, findings, and conclusions. They may also have a physical model or demonstration.
3. Project Defense: During judging, students explain their project to judges, answering questions about their methodology, results, and conclusions.
4. Exploration and Networking: The fair also provides opportunities for students to explore other projects, learn from their peers, and potentially connect with scientists, engineers, and other professionals.
Students can choose up to three people to do their project with.
