NASA

During our meeting with NASA professionals, we aimed to grasp various STEM roles and learn from their experiences. Engineers, who worked on the International Space Station, demonstrated how merging engineering with deep knowledge of plants led to innovative solutions for the International Space Station. Another individual, Angela Rizzi, emphasized the importance of resilience and seeking assistance, valuable advice for our robotics team when facing challenges.

HP

During our meeting with Hsinlin Lai, a senior director at HP, we sought insights on team motivation and navigating a career in STEM. Mrs. Lai emphasized the importance of prioritization, soft skills in leadership, and overcoming gender-related challenges by focusing on qualifications over gender in professional settings. Her guidance shed light on effective leadership and encouraged proactive learning and engagement within the team.

Rookie Camp

Rookie Camp was a week-long immersion into robotics and FIRST, designed to foster a sense of culture and teamwork among new members. As a guide during the camp, my role was to ensure the rookies had a hands-on experience, from game and team reveals to building mechanisms and understanding presentation techniques. Witnessing the rookies' growth and excitement as they competed with the robots they had built was truly rewarding, leaving them more informed and enthusiastic about their journey in FIRST.

Innovation Station

During Innovation Station, a STEM camp for elementary and middle school students, we focused on teaching the design process. I had the opportunity to guide a group of elementary schoolers through creating marshmallow towers, emphasizing stability in their designs. Witnessing their growth, problem-solving skills, and enthusiasm within just a few hours was incredibly rewarding, highlighting the impact of hands-on STEM experiences.
