Welcome to the Academy of Technology & Design, where we are dedicated to building a better Hawaii and world through cutting-edge innovation, creativity, and expertise. With our motto of "Building a Better Future," we are committed to nurturing the next generation of technological and design leaders who will shape the world we live in. Our academy serves as a dynamic educational center where students are empowered to explore their passion for technology and design. We offer a wide range of Programs of Study that cater to diverse interests and provide comprehensive training in various fields.
Graduates of PCHS's Academy of Technology & Design successfully interact in a technological environment to achieve their personal, educational, & workplace goals. As lifelong learners, they will work cooperatively for the improvement of society for future generations with their innovative ideas.
PCHS's Academy of Technology & Design provides meaningful opportunities for all students in a dynamic learning environment which emphasizes real-world career experiences & College opportunities to create responsible ethical, successful global citizens.
The collaboration between three distinct programs at PCHS - the Architectural Design (AD) Program of Study led by Mr. Kyle Martin, the Engineering Technology Program of Study under the direction of Ms. Traci Kobayashi, and the Residential and Commercial Construction Program of Study led by Mr. Arnold Arucan - has resulted in a project that seamlessly merged creativity, engineering expertise, and practical construction skills. The collaboration centered around the design, safety testing, and construction of a pergola for our school's Legacy Garden, showcasing the connectedness among these disciplines.
Under the guidance of their respective teachers, students from the three programs set out to bring the Legacy Garden's vision to life. The project began with the AD students conceptualizing the pergola's aesthetic and functional aspects. Their innovative designs incorporated both artistic flair and structural considerations, demonstrating a deep understanding of architectural principles.
Once the design phase was complete, the Engineering Technology students took on the task of ensuring the pergola's safety and structural integrity. Through rigorous testing and analysis, they applied engineering principles to assess load-bearing capabilities, wind resistance, and overall stability. This critical step ensured that the pergola would not only be visually appealing but also a structurally sound addition to our campus.
With the design and engineering elements in place, the Residential and Commercial Construction students stepped into action. Armed with newly acquired construction skills and guided by Swinerton Hawaii and Structural Hawaii Inc., both TnD Academy business partners, students skillfully translated the architectural vision and engineering specifications into a tangible structure and started the build process last school year.
Throughout the project, students from all three programs worked side by side, fostering an environment of interdisciplinary learning and mutual respect. The exchange of ideas and collaboration on problem-solving created a vibrant atmosphere that propelled the project forward. With an anticipated completion date of Spring 2024, the pergola will stand as a lasting symbol of the students' innovation, dedication, and the transformative impact of collaborative education.
