Na Hoku Ala (NHA) is a support program for students who need extra help in Reading (ELA- English Language Arts) or Math. We service reading for grades kindergarten through 3rd grade and math for grades 3rd through 5th grade. We specialize in reading and math foundations & structured literacy.

Mrs. Doplihar joined our team during the 2016-17 school year. Prior to that, she had been an “Aina in the Schools” volunteer teacher for 3rd grade at Kahala Elementary, homeschooled her son in second grade and was part of a preschool coop during her daughter’s preschool year. She has two children in high school. Mrs. Doplihar loves working with children and has a good rapport with her students. She gets excited to see her students make progress and, more importantly, discover the joys of reading! She is an avid collector of books. Her own children also love listening to audiobooks.

Ms. Tisha joined our team in 2019. Having children of her own who learn differently, she understands the struggle and is passionate about helping those in similar situations. Ms. Tisha strives to help students gain confidence in their abilities while having fun and enjoying learning. She is a foodie who likes cooking healthy meals for her family, learning about wellbeing, and spending time in nature.

Kristi Altona joined the team in 2024. She most recently served on the staff at Hahaione Elementary following over a decade of work at the Pearl Harbor-Hickam Joint Naval Base Child Development Center as a Director and Curriculum Training Specialist.
Kristi has two children in Elementary. She focuses on creating memorable and fun experiences.
Ms. Jenn is a creative leader and passionate about helping students to succeed by providing a safe, nurturing learning environment. Her teaching qualifications include a Cambridge CELTA for English Language Teaching and a B.S. in Education focused on English Language and Literature and Geography. Ms. Jenn has traveled, lived, and worked internationally, including studying and teaching in Barcelona, Spain and Santiago, Chile. Jenn is also a freelance editor and proofreader. She relocated to Honolulu from Chicago six years ago to be near family and enjoys time spent chasing and cuddling her toddler.
Jayna Smith is the Response to Intervention (RtI) Coordinator. She has her B.S. in Education from the University of Oregon. Jayna has previously taught 5th grade in Aina Haina School for the past 14 years. Prior to that she taught at Helemano, Hale Kula and Pearl Ridge Elementary Schools in grades 2 through 5. Her mother in-law, her husband, her 3 brother in-laws, her 6 nieces, and her own 2 children all attended Aina Haina School. She loves to travel, learn about different cultures, and to experience their cuisine.
