Technology &
Distance Learning Model

Distance Learning and Technology

To effectively implement and facilitate the instructional model of blended learning, students must have access to the internet and have a computer or laptop.

Devices will be made available for loan to students. Students who would like to check out a device and/or need assistance with internet access are asked to call the school at (808) 305-1000 and speak to a counselor or vice-principal. The devices will be collected at the end of the school year. If the device is lost or damaged, the student will be issued an obligation and is responsible to pay to replace or repair the device. Also, the device must be used in accordance with the DOE Acceptable Use policy.

Distance Learning model for students who opt to remain at home and not report to campus.

Students have the option to learn from home 100% of the time and participate in the remote distance learning ONLY instructional model.

Parents and students who select this option should consider that:

● Students must have a computer/laptop/tablet and internet access.

● Students and parents may work with the scheduled class teachers. We ask that parents help monitor student progress and encourage students to reach out to teachers during the designated tutorial period on C3 days.

● Students will be expected to to complete and submit all work assigned by teachers. Students may be expected to do an alternate assignment if hands on or laboratory work is missed during face to face campus days.

Moanalua is not offering a separate distance learning program as we cannot offer all seven courses, which would include electives, in that way. We want all students to earn all credits and be able to transition smoothly back when the time comes for all students to return to campus. Conversely, should the schools be shut down completely, all students will already have their online routine down and the relationship established with the assigned teacher.

Parents should think carefully when considering Homeschooling. A homeschooled child will not have access to some of the elective courses our school offers. In addition, no course credits will be granted, or acknowledged by HIDOE. We strongly encourage you to be informed of all the implications for your child’s future should families choose to homeschool. If you have any questions regarding homeschooling, please call a counselor and/or refer to the DOE website. http://www.hawaiipublicschools.org/ParentsAndStudents/EnrollingInSchool/Choosingaschool/Pages/Homeschooling-FAQs.aspx 15
