I am excited to have this position and look forward to making this a great year. If you know me, resilience is my strength as well as flexibility. I have an open door policy and believe in teamwork.
Aloha
My name is Clare Seeger Mawae and about to be Clare Seeger Albino as of December 12th 2020! I will be the Social Studies teacher for this coming school year and Advisory to some of the 9th-grade students.
I have three children, born and raised here on Molokai, who all did Hawaiian Immersion from Punana Leo to 6th grade in Kualapuu. My oldest finished her education in England in 2017, and my younger two graduated Molokai Highschool 2020 and 2018. I have been a substitute teacher since 2016 and have worked with some of your children over the years. Some of you may know me from Youth in Motion or when I was teaching swimming when I was a lifeguard at the County Pool. I have also been a business owner for over 21 years with Molokai Outdoors.
I have lived here on Molokai for 27 years, and 3 years on Maui before moving here. Molokai has been the longest placed that I have ever lived, and despite being British by birth, I only lived in the UK for about 15 years. I was born on a little tiny island with nothing much taller than a coconut tree. After we left that island, I made a solemn vow in a cave of all places in the hills of Afghanistan on my 6th birthday that I would return. Well, the island changed, and somehow I found Molokai unintentionally!
I started my college life here on Molokai, obtaining my associate's degree here on Molokai. I then went to get my Bachelors Degree in Business and now in my final leg with my student teaching for my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education with a GPA of 4.0.
Before Molokai, my life has been a mosaic, filled with adventure, experiences, and facing the positives and negatives in life. Overall I am blessed with three amazing children born on Molokai and a place I call home. Life has certainly been full to date, trying to make the most of every opportunity. I ran Britain's first London Marathon at 15 years old and had a bright future in the running world. I was also selected a few months later for the Olympic Squad in Windsurfing, making my future decisions tough. I was fortunate and very thankful to have different opportunities. Windsurfing made its calling to take me around the world for 12 years with many successes to the top in the world to losses that built a resilience in me.
I hope that I can bring a differing and refreshing perspective to the classroom. I am excited about the new learning style that the students will be doing. I believe that this is a step in the right direction when it comes to education.
I am also very aware of how these times can be trying as a routine, and some discipline will be necessary for all of us to succeed. Technology has come a long way. Having done online college classes, I am a great believer in this blended learning environment. I know and believe in each student, and I hope that I can play one small part in bringing the students brilliance as we embark on this new journey. The new age of education embraces the diversity of our student body community. The new technology allows enhancing student opportunities and learning as we move forward to inspire and celebrate diversity in this technological world. One of the other key areas that I am thrilled about is Project-Based Learning. Students can apply the concepts they learn to something that they can relate to and or hands-on experiences.
Please bear with me as we navigate together a whole new experience in the educational world. I hope to play an important role in the students’ lives in bringing the best out of them as they move toward their goals and dreams.
I have an open-door policy, so please contact me anytime, and I will do my best to schedule you to a time that suits you best. You can email me any time to clare.mawae@molokai.k12.hi.us or text me on one of the messaging apps I will be posting on this website as we navigate this new process.
Thank you, and I appreciate the opportunity to teach this coming school year.
Aloha,
Clare Mawae
