The Hawai‘i State Department of Education continues to work closely with county and state officials in response to the Lahaina wildfires.
We understand that this situation can be challenging and stressful for our staff, students and their families and have pulled resources in a central location to be as helpful as possible.

The Department’s “Air Quality Action Plan for Schools” in the reopening health and safety guidance for Lahaina schools has been amended as of Oct. 15, 2023, to reflect a more conservative approach in consultation with the state Department of Health. The likelihood of harmful conditions at the schools remains very low, but the guidance has been revised to be extra cautious.
