Choose Love & Mindfulness

Choose Love Program at King

Choose Love is a Social Emotional Learning program that teaches students to understand and manage their emotions. King students participate in weekly Choose Love lessons through their Advisory class.

The Choose Love program focuses on 4 character values: Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, and Compassion in Action. When learned and practiced daily, these character values transform you, your relationships with others, and create a ripple effect of happiness, health and productivity throughout your school, home and community.

Mindfulness

As part of our Choose Love program we have introduced  students to “Mindful Minutes” via lessons in their Advisory class. This is a good time to  continue this practice at home. Include siblings and other family members too! Here’s how the Choose Love Program defines mindfulness:

“Mindfulness is basically thinking about thinking. It’s paying attention on purpose. When you practice mindfulness, you are more aware of your thoughts and accept them, you focus on this moment, you stop dwelling on the negative or on the what-ifs, and stop wasting your energy and attention on challenging feelings. You pay attention to the here and now and find the good right in this present moment. Remember, your thoughts come and go....and you are in control of them and can decide if you want to keep them, change them, or how you act on them.”

Your child can practice their Mindful Minute upon waking, before starting a difficult task, after completing a task, when feeling stressed or anytime they feel a need to slow down.
