Under the Hawaii Child Labor Law, a child labor certificate or “work permit” is required for working minors until they reach 18 years of age.
There are two types of certificates, depending upon the age of the minor. The procedures to obtain these certificates are explained below.
WORK PERMITS:
Students 16 and 17 years of age can request a work permit online at:
You will need your social security number and an email (not Kalaheo email) address.
After the work permit is submitted online, the Department of Labor will email your work permit to you as an attachment.
Print out the work permit and take to employer.
MINOR'S CERTIFICATE OF EMPLOYMENT:
Students ages 14 and 15, a Minor's Certificate of Employment form must be obtained at the Satellite City Hall,
Kalaheo College & Career Center or online at:
Download the form, complete, and submit it with the above listed identification option and then it can be submitted for processing.

Good Jobs Hawai'i offers free skills training in Hawai'i’s high-demand sectors including: Healthcare, Technology, Clean energy/Skilled trades, and Creative industries that can lead to a pathway for a better-paying job and accelerate one’s career.
Most training at Good Jobs usually take 1 year or less to complete. After completing, students will end with a certificate.

Hawaii Pre-Health Career Corps:
The Hawaii Pre-Health Career Corps is a free year-round program for students of any age who want to pursue a health career. Its purpose is to increase awareness about health careers, provide mentoring, shadowing and research experiences, and provide campus exposure to health careers.
This program is for students who live in Hawaii or have ties to Hawaii.
