Program Policies

JCHS Summer School 2026

We want your child's summer school experience to be an enjoyable one. Please review the following policies before registering to avoid any unnecessary surprises or disappointment.

Dates and Times

0.5-credit courses are 11 days in duration and may be taken during Session 1 or Session 2.
- Session 1: June 2 - 17, 2026 (11 school days, holiday on June 11)
- Session 2: June 18 - July 2, 2026 (11 school days)
1-credit courses are 22 days in duration and must be taken during both sessions.
Summer school hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Attendance Policy

Learning time during the summer is limited and valuable. One day of summer school is equivalent to a week of regular school. Therefore, excessive absences and/or tardies are grounds for dismissal from the summer school program.

0.5-credit course: Student is allowed 2 absences; any additional tardy or absence will result in dismissal.
1-credit course: Student is allowed 4 absences; any additional tardy or absence will result in dismissal.
Three tardies are equivalent to one absence.
A tardy of 30 minutes or more will be counted as an absence.
All absences and tardies will be considered "unexcused." Do NOT schedule appointments or trips during summer school hours.
Students who are dismissed from summer school due to attendance will receive a final grade of "F."

Student Misconduct and Discipline

All Department of Education Chapter 19 rules apply during summer school.

A student who commits a Class A or B offense shall be immediately dismissed from summer school.
A student who commits a Class C or D offense will /may be released from summer school, depending on circumstance.
Disciplinary decisions and dismissals made by the summer school director are final.
Students who are dismissed from summer school due to misconduct will receive a final grade of "F" and are ineligible for a refund.

Distance Learning Courses via Edgenuity

Select distance learning courses will be offered via Edgenuity. Students who take these courses will NOT report to campus.
Edgenuity is a self-paced program with no teacher instruction. The teacher's only responsibility is to assign assessments during summer school hours (8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.).
Students must have their own computer and reliable internet access. Campbell will not loan devices to students during summer school.
Students must be online during summer school hours and able to work independently.
Attendance and student misconduct policies will be enforced.
Courses that award 0.5 credit must be taken and completed during Session 1 (June 2 - June 17) or Session 2 (June 18 - July 2).
Courses that award 1 credit must be completed before the end of summer school on July 2.

Grades and Credits for Summer 2026

Students can earn a maximum of 1 credit during summer school.
All courses are eligible for high school credit toward graduation. Students may retake courses that they already passed to improve their GPA, but credit will not be awarded.
A final summer school report card will be mailed home to parents/guardians at the end of the program.
For students attending Hawaii public schools, grades and credits for summer courses will be recorded on their transcripts approximately one month after the end of the program.
Students are responsible for registering for the appropriate courses for the 2026-2027 school year -- see your school counselor if you need assistance.

Tuition

There is NO fee for students enrolled in a Hawaii public school during the 2025-2026 school year or 2026-2027 school year. The Department of Education is covering the tuition for these students.
Tuition for students from private schools or home schools is as follows:
- 0.5-credit course: $130 each
- 1-credit course: $260
- Registration will not be complete until payment and/or tuition assistance vouchers are received. The last day to pay for summer school is May 15, 2026 in Administration Building Room 5, by 3:00 pm.

Refunds

The deadline to request a refund is June 1, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
Refunds may take up to 4-6 weeks to be processed. Refunds must be picked up from James Campbell High School Accounting Office, located in Administration Building Room 5; they cannot be mailed to you.
