"Be the Best You Can Be"
At ‘Īao Intermediate, excellence isn't just encouraged—it's celebrated!
The ‘Īao Renaissance Foundation is a school-wide positive recognition program designed to uplift our students by honoring academic achievement, strong character, and community spirit. Open to ALL students in grades 6 through 8, the Renaissance Program rewards those who shine in the classroom, show up ready to learn, and make good choices. Each quarter, our Renaissance Team reviews grades, attendance, and behavior to determine eligibility for one of our three recognition levels:
🏅 Gold Card:
Straight A’s, no absences or tardies, and a spotless behavior record.
🥈 Maroon Card:
A’s and B’s, excellent attendance, and no referrals or discipline issues.
⚪ White Card:
A’s, B’s, and C’s (no D’s or F’s), strong attendance, and positive behavior.
💡 And there’s more! All Renaissance scholars complete a minimum of 3 hours of community or school service each quarter—because giving back is part of greatness. This year, an amazing 320 students stepped up to the challenge and joined the Renaissance movement! From excelling in the classroom to lending a hand in the community, these scholars have truly made their mark. Through their hard work and dedication, our students helped raise $34,o00 through our Cookie Corner fundraiser and completed over 2,500 hours of community service!
🙏 A huge MAHALO to our volunteers, faculty, staff, families, friends, and local businesses. Your support keeps the Renaissance spirit alive and growing!
The Renaissance Program is thriving—and we’re just getting started. We’re proud of our student scholars and can’t wait to see all they accomplish next!
Let’s keep rising, ʻĪao Tigers 🌟
With heartfelt thanks,
The Renaissance Foundation Board of Directors
Renaissance was developed in 1984 by Larry Biddle at Conway High School in South Carolina and has been implemented in over 1,800 schools across the nation. Renaissance is a partnership between business and education which brings ideas and people together to find ways for our children to experience the true joy of learning and to recognize educators as dedicated and valued professionals.
Results have been positive and many schools report improvements in school climate, attendance, student discipline, as well as reduction of juvenile crimes in school and in the community. Renaissance is not so much a program as it is an attitude to excel, to do well in school, and to have pride in one’s overall accomplishments.
The mission of the ʻĪao School Renaissance Foundation is to help the school promote and achieve academic excellence, in effect, to create a renaissance in education.
“The purpose of our organization's primary mission is to help the school promote excellence and contribution to their community, state and nation. The purpose of the of the academic program is to equip our students with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they need to make responsible decisions to their own lives. Education should result in individual self - fulfilment as well as enabling students to contribution to their community, state and nation. Our goal is to instill pride, to strengthen basic skills and to inspire a positive attitude toward learning and excelling which should carry to their adult lives. Our students are the future of our community.”
ʻĪao School will implement the concepts of Renaissance to promote academic excellence in our students. The school will focus on four major areas to begin the process of self - improvement.
Goal 1 : To have students maintain a Grade Point Average ( GPA ) of a 2.0 or above with no “D’s” or “F’s.”
Goal 2 : To have no disciplinary referrals. No class A, B C offense and no suspensions.
Goal 3 : To promote community service of our students, a minimum of 3 hours per Quarter.
ʻĪao School Renaissance Foundation is committed to recognizing further academic excellence for the school year. This will be done by raising the expectations for ourselves and for our students and by providing awards for those achieving higher levels of performance.
This “Renaissance” will be realized by taking a business approach to improve academic performance. American businesses and our free - market system have proven to the world that people who are motivated perform and take great pride in the development of their skills.
Partners in Excellence is a partnership between the business community and ʻĪao School to recognize students for their academic accomplishments by providing positive tangible incentives to encourage students to reach for greater levels of academic achievement.
