Dr. Jim Kurukawa was a retired professor from Towson University in Maryland.
Dr. Jim Furukawa, who was born on Maui, and his wife, Emi, who is a high - ranking expert in Ikebana ( the art of Japanese flower arranging ), were frequent visitors to the islands.
Dr. Furukawa has since passed away but will always be fondly remembered by ʻĪao School.
The Furukawa’s were major scholarship sponsors and supporters of academic recognition for our ʻĪao students.
