Blackboard has served as the Learning Management System (LMS) for the E-School Program and HVLN Schools who wanted to use a robust system. While the platform has served us well, the Department underwent an RFP to seek a robust LMS designed for the K12 environment that includes learner tools (communication tools, productivity tools, and student engagement tools) and support tools (administration tools, course delivery tools, and curriculum design tools) that enable the delivery of online and blended learning.
Instructure's Learning Platform, Canvas, was selected as the new LMS for SY 2022-2023 through the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. The RFP was informed by feedback and input from various stakeholder groups.
Canvas was chosen for its ease of use, familiar layout, wide range of features, mobile readiness, external tool integrations, and functions that promote student engagement, organization, and self-efficacy. The use of mobile technologies and cloud-based applications have made connecting students with content, with one another, and with their teachers faster and more efficient.
Canvas will replace Blackboard completely by Fall 2022. OCID has planned a 7-month transition timeline to help move from Blackboard to Canvas. Below you will find information for transition planning and resources. Our goal is to have a smooth transition and provide all the necessary resources to make a successful migration.

It was important to seek a robust LMS designed for the K12 environment with features that would work well for all students.
Blackboard Learn did not submit a proposal and another LMS needed to be chosen.
Through the Digital Transformation for Learning Plan, the OCID Digital Design Team (DDT) convened an LMS Steering Committee in May 2021 for interested administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, and community members. The purpose of the committee was to identify needs among students, parents/guardians, teachers and administrators related to a LMS; become familiar with various LMS; and provide recommendations to state-level decision makers on criteria for the selection of a LMS. The criteria that was generated was integrated into the RFP that was posted in August 2021.
DDT staff was responsible for reviewing vendor proposals and making the final LMS selection.
Schools will have access to Blackboard Learn and the courses until June 15, 2022. The contract with Blackboard Learn will end on June 30, 2022.
DDT staff identified template and master courses for an initial course migration. These include:
E-School Summer 2021 courses
Specific E-School Fall and Year 2021 courses
In-house master courses
Specific non-credit PD courses
All other courses will be done on a request basis. Please complete the Blackboard Course Migration Request Form. OCID staff will review your request and contact you with any follow-up questions.
Courses that are listed under "What Blackboard content will be migrated automatically?" will be available in Canvas. All other courses will not be accessible when the contract ends.
