The Office of Curriculum and Instructional Design provides access to a robust Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, and online course content to support expanded learning opportunities. The Hawaiʻi Virtual Learning Network (HVLN) Hawaiʻi Online Teaching (HOT) program will provide implementation resources and support.
In addition to the LMS, users will have access to content for over 120 courses that can be used as a distance learning, blended or expanded learning option. Courses are meant to be teacher facilitated and encourage high levels of engagement.
For additional information, please review the SY 26-27 Memo.
Program Details and Implementation Requirements:
Each site must designate a Point of Contact and an LMS Administrator who will be responsible for managing school-level implementation and completing the necessary online training to ensure optimal use of the platform.
The platform can be utilized for various educational needs:
For Student Instruction: Distance learning, hybrid/blended options, and as a teacher resource.
For Staff & School Development: Professional development or other school-wide learning models.
Select online content is available for Grades K-12, including core content, computer science courses, and Hawaiʻi specific social studies courses. All content is meant to be teacher facilitated. Staff can also develop their own content and add it to Canvas.
Ongoing Access: Students can access learning materials (presentations, notes, assignments) anytime, anywhere. This is particularly helpful for students who miss class or need to revisit concepts.
Differentiation of Instruction: Teachers can provide targeted resources to students who require additional support. This could be additional practice, video tutorials or links to relevant online resources.
Efficiency and Reiteration: Teachers can easily revisit content that was previously taught. Having everything digitally also helps to easily edit information, share and collaborate with other colleagues, and reduce the need for paper-based handouts.
Integration with other Learning Tools: Canvas integrates with many other tools (i.e., Canva, Padlet, Pear Deck, EdPuzzle, and many more). Everyone also automatically has access to Gale resources which provide quality content in various subject areas.
Carefully review the information on this site.

Canvas Community: The Canvas Community is a resource that contains all Canvas guides.
Canvas Training Portal: Access to the Training Services Portal is easy with single sign-on functionality in the Canvas help menu located at the bottom of the Global Navigation Bar. Once the Help button is selected, look for the Training Services Portal link in the list (Instructions on accessing the portal).
