Many of our most vulnerable students, those with disabilities, experience barriers to print-based and often digitally-based materials. Both print and digital materials can be "text-based" which refers to materials with static or fixed text and images, such as textbooks and supplemental text materials.
The National Center on Accessible Educational Materials provides technical assistance and guidance to states across the nation. According to Hawaii's ACT 254, State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) must obligate publishers to submit NIMAS-conformant files and related core instructional materials to the NIMAC.
