Training school personnel on sexual violence prevention is crucial for several reasons. School staff can foster a safe, caring school environment where students feel respected and protected. School staff will be able to intervene when they notice signs of abuse in students. Effective training can also help ensure that school staff know how to talk about healthy relationships, consent, and personal safety and respond appropriately when a disclosure is made.
By SY 2025-2026, all school personnel will be trained on sexual violence prevention. The professional training component for administrators, teachers, and other school personnel addresses:
talking to students about sexual violence prevention,
effects of sexual violence on children,
handling of disclosures made by children, and
mandated reporting.
Please note: These presentations and trainings may supplement the existing school program. These trainings do not fulfill the school personnel training requirement (SVP 101).
