Most educators utilize only one platform to deliver content, maintain records and collaborate with students. Your school may already have chosen one. If not, either of these platforms are available to HIDOE teachers.
Please note that Blackboard is currently only confirmed to be available through SY 20-21.
Google Classroom is part of HIDOE's G-Suite that is available to HIDOE teachers.
The resources include playlists of videos that you can watch and/or listen to at your own pace. Video walkthroughs allow you to pause and rewind as you need. Although not required, a second monitor may be helpful when viewing video tutorials so you can watch/pause/rewind on one screen and follow along in the actual platform on the other monitor (or you can toggle between windows if you only have one monitor).
Most schools are using this. Please find out from your administrator or technology coordinator whether your classroom should be on the school domain or DOE domain.
Some secondary schools are using this LMS in conjunction with pre-made curriculum made available to schools who requested it.
Once you're familiar with your learning platform, having an instructional model that integrates technology is important. Technology is just a tool and all the quotes about tools pertain to technology also.
"If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail." "Use the right tool for the right job." "We become what we behold. We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us."
Understanding how to use the tools efficiently and effectively is what will create the conditions to engage students in rigorous learning. Sound instructional design and rigorous standards remain at the heart of integrating technology.
Although there are many technology integration models and frameworks, below are 2 simple ones to consider as you begin to design and add content to your learning platform.
Knowing one is good...but knowing two will provide additional context for building and engaging learners with digital content.
Assessment and feedback are just as important when working online as when we work with students face to face. Online environments can allow for even larger audiences and authentic feedback from professionals in fields of study. Students can also provide peer feedback, or highlight evidences to match the assessment rubric or criteria. Commenting in apps allow for specific, descriptive and timely feedback in the form of texts, video, or audio. Learn more in Chapter 3.
Now that you have your platform and instructional model identified, you will have decide how you will be delivering instruction.
Synchronous learning is online or distance education that happens in real time, whereas asynchronous learning occurs through online channels without real-time interaction. Many hybrid learning models will include a blend of both asynchronous and synchronous online learning.

Now that you have your platform and instructional model identified, the next chapters are additional resources to enhance your online learning environment. There are tips, add-ons and plug ins and links to building your virtual Professional Learning Network. If you can't find what you want, just search the web for your ideas (e.g. "polling students in google classroom", "add Youtube videos to Google Classroom", etc.)
