The Early College Program allows high school students to enroll in college courses on their high school campus. Students who take early college courses are taught by professors/college instructors. Successful completion of the college course(s) may receive both high school and college credit.
Q: What do I input for the graduation date in the Starter Application?
A: Just pick a random date in May of your graduation year, since graduation dates are not finalized yet. Usually, it is safe to pick the second Saturday.
Q: What type of classes would be considered a high school requirement credit and on the other hand, a high school elective? (on the Dual Credit application)
A: Like regular high school classes, some are required, common core classes, while the others are electives. Early College courses typically fall under those same categories based on what the class is. For example, English 100 would be a high school requirement, while Intro to Digital Art would be a high school elective.
Q: How do I select the early college classes I want to take after filling out the starter application?
A: You can select your classes on the Dual Credit application that is sent via email after contacting Dr. Yamashiro.
Q: On average, how long is one early college class in terms of a semester?
A: Depending on the class, some classes can be as short as 4 weeks. Spring and fall semesters typically run for 3-4 months, or 15-17 weeks. Summer semester classes can be 5 weeks or 16 weeks depending on the class.
Q: Would I be able to earn credit prior to graduation?
A: As long as you are passing the class, it will count towards your graduation. If you are taking spring courses during the year of graduation, it will not be apart of your final transcript/GPA, but it will count towards your college GPA.
Q: For the applications, do I put my school email or personal email?
A: Put your personal email.
