Aina Haina Elementary School provides Japanese Language instruction to all students in K-Gr. 5.
Students receive lessons once a week, 30-45 minutes per session, focusing on conversational Japanese and culture.
All lessons are based on the National and State World Languages Standards.
In addition to the Nihongo Program during regular school hours, there is an optional after-school Japanese program for those interested. Its focus is on Japanese reading and writing.
We are honored to welcome Aki Sensei to our program! Originally from Okinawa, Japan, she joins us through the Japanese Language Education Assistant Program (J-LEAP). Supported by the Japan Foundation and the Laurasian Institution, this competitive program selects top-tier native assistants to support U.S. Japanese education for two years.
Aki Sensei brings incredible global experiene to our students. She has lived in five countries and can convers in Portuguese, Chinese, and Thai, in addition to Japanese and English.
Outside the classroom, she is an avid camper, SUP (paddleboard) enthusiast, and a talented origami-jewely maker.
We are luck to have her wealth of knowledge in our Nihongo Program. Welcome, Aki Sensei!
