Technology Responsible Use Guidelines (TRUG) & Technology Responsible Use Form (TRUF)

Students and Parents are required to read the TRUG and submit a completed and signed TRUF in order for a student to have access to a DOE account, network and device.

The form will be completed during the first week of school for all 9th grade students and new students to Radford HS. New incoming students who register through the registrar's office will have the TRUF completed and signed there.

Once a TRUF is completed, signed, and turned in it will be recorded in Infinite Campus. The TRUF is valid while attending Radford HS and is no longer required to be completed each year.

Unauthorized and Contraband technology on campus

Students have agreed to the HIDOE TRUG and are required to comply with the Student - Parent Guide & Expectations. Students are not allowed to use personal devices at school and are considered contraband.

Contraband Items: Communication Devices (page 10):

Cellular phones and accessories during classes. ●Electronic Devices: Radios, audio recorders, speakers, iPads, PSPs, and the like. Earphone-type devices may be used, given teacher directive/permission for educational purposes.

*All contraband items will be confiscated and turned in to the respective vice principal. Serious violations and repeat violations will result in suspension/consequences subject to the discretion of the Administrator and in accordance with the RHS Discipline Guidelines. RHS will not be responsible for the recovery or replacement of lost or stolen contraband items.

Chromebooks loans for home use:

Students who do not have a device at home to do schoolwork only may borrow a Radford Chromebook and charger from the office. These devices are not the newest, or most updated, but are compatible enough to do school work.

ALL loaned devices are to be returned to the school at the end of each school year.

Suggestion: Chromebooks, if taken care of, can easily last for the time a student is in high school and a good option for an education device. They are cheaper alternatives than laptops and can be often found on sale from places like Best Buy, or Amazon.

Technology fees for missing / damaged loaned chromebooks:
You may exchange your loaned computer at the front office if there are issues. However, if there are damages due to proper normal usage, a technology fee may be assessed. All loaned Chromebooks are checked for damages upon return.

Current technology repair charges are as follows (Prices are subject to change dependent upon current pricing and availability of parts):

Damaged or lost AC Adapter = $20
Damaged trackpad, key(s) and/or keyboard requiring replacement of entire palm rest = $20
Cracked or badly scratched screen = $25
Damaged camera $20
Damaged motherboard/liquid soaked or moisture build up inside of computer = $50
Lost or not returned loaner computer and charger = $75 + $20 = $95
(Chromebooks taken from the school that are NOT loaned will incur the cost for its replacement: $250)

Important Reminders:

Chromebook screens are fragile and may crack with uneven pressure. Keep small or uneven items from pressing on the screen whether inside the computer (ie. pen on the keyboard) or on the cover side when in a bag.
Keep fingers off the screen, carefully open computers from the edge of the cover, and only carry a computer from its base. The LCD panel extends past the visible edge and is easily cracked if grabbed incorrectly.
