Hello! My name is Sahana Venkatesh and I am in the graduating class of 2019 at Andover High School in Andover, Massachusetts.
Ever since I was a young child, I have been constantly exposed to many traditions and religious activities of my culture. My family has originated from India, mainly the South, and is deeply rooted in the culture and beliefs that Hinduism portrays. Since a very young age, I have been learning India Carnatic vocal music, Carnatic Veena, and South Indian classical dance, Bharatanatyam. I cherish the opportunities I have received through these arts and wholly respect its roots and traditional background. I have always been inquisitive and curious to learn about other cultures and note the similarities and differences between my traditions and others'. Although my service and immersive experience are primarily based in India, I am open to explore other international places through my research project.
As American musician Yo-Yo Ma said, "When you learn something from people, or from a culture, you accept it as a gift, and it is your lifelong commitment to preserve it and build on it."
This is not just simply a website documenting my service and experiences, but a look at how I have tried to make an impact in the community around me. I hope you find my website interesting and enjoyable!
