Hi, I'm Sahana and I'm a senior at Andover High School in Andover, MA. Ever since I was a young child, I have always been interested with science and math related topics. In these topics, I found and continue to find concepts that constantly intrigue me. For this reason I would like to research about Children's STEM Education in India for my CAPS project; specifically on how STEM is taught and propagated to children in India. I would like to find out what can be done to improve the grade school STEM programs and if there have been any improvements in the past 10 years after the birth of smart and highly efficient technology. In addition, I would like to look into if STEM is taught differently in co-ed schools and gender-segregated schools.
Outside of CAPS, I am heavily involved with classical Indian music and dance. I learn vocal Carnatic music and play the Veena, a South Indian stringed instrument. I am also an avid student of Bharatanatyam, which is a traditional and classical South Indian dance form. I am very interested in my culture and heritage and take part in many events at my local temple and cultural organizations. I also learn Sanskrit, which is an ancient Indian language and completed an accredited 3 year online course. In addition, I volunteer at the local senior center and participate in the Andover Robotics club, where I am on an all girls robotics team. In my free time, I love to watch movies, listen to music, cook, and hangout with friends.
