Training for new preparers includes two in-person training sessions plus about 90 minutes of recorded videos to watch from home. Your trainers are VITA Site Coordinators with several years of experience at tax sites and training volunteers. We focus on the topics and scenarios seen most frequently at our tax sites.
In person training takes place at CCAC Allegheny Campus (North Side) or CCAC Boyce Campus (Monroeville). Free parking is available at both locations. Coffee, tea and lunch are provided. Please bring a laptop to the second training session.
Get started by watching our welcome video for an overview of the training process and what to expect at the tax sites.
Day One: 9AM-2PM

Day Two: 9AM-5PM
During this training we'll learn to use TaxSlayer software and complete a sample return together. Next, everyone will start the IRS Certification exam, with trainers there to help you along the way. Trainers will stay until 5PM so you can complete the exam in person that day, or finish at home. Additional support is available through Zoom testing sessions.
