Dear Families,
I wanted to share updated information about our Eaglecrest ski program for this school year. It is a bit of a long read, but chock full of important information.
Points of contact for all ski field trip–related information will be Mr. Mike, Ms. Elliot, Ms. Hum, Ms. Salik, or Ms. Ariana. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions or needs.
This message, along with all appropriate forms, will be posted on your classroom’s homepage. We are also happy to send everything digitally or provide physical copies to send home—just let us know what works best for your family.
Please mark your calendars for the following trips:
Wednesday, January 21st (coming up in just two weeks!)
Thursday, February 5th
Friday, March 13th
At this time, we have school buses reserved with the following schedule:
9:45 AM – Bus pickup from school
~10:15 AM – Arrival at Eaglecrest
1:30 PM – Bus pickup from the mountain
The typical structure of the day includes:
A lesson at the start of the day
Lunch
Free ski/ride time
Extending Our Ski Time
With the early bus pickup, we are hoping to mobilize enough parent drivers and chaperones to extend our time on the mountain and leave closer to 2:00–2:15 PM instead of 1:30. This was successful last year, and we’re hopeful we can do it again!
Students should pack a lunch, OR
Students who typically receive school lunch will be provided with a school sack lunch
The school will cover lift tickets, rentals, and lessons for students.
Students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own gear and their Eaglecrest Season Pass if they have it - this significantly reduces overall program costs
Their own ski/snowboard gear, and/or
An Eaglecrest season pass,
Students are responsible for bringing the following personal gear:
Hat
Warm jacket and layers
Snow pants
Gloves or mittens
Goggles (if they have them. Science/construction safety glasses work in a pinch)
Eaglecrest will provide:
Skis or snowboard
Appropriate boots
Helmet
If your student is missing any required gear, please reach out—we are often able to help source what’s needed.
**PLEASE help your child dress to stay warm; it can make or break their experience**
This experience is made possible through funding from Eaglecrest and the JCCS Activity Fund. Between lift tickets, rentals, and lessons, the cost is approximately $40 per student.
We warmly welcome optional contributions to help offset the cost of these field trips and keep them accessible for all students.
Checks can be made out to “Juneau Community Charter School.”
Reach out to us if you’d prefer a Venmo link.
We can also accept cash
Please help us by ensuring the following are completed:
Eaglecrest liability waivers
School permission slips
5th-grade passport applications (for applicable students)
Letting us know if you are willing to drive and/or chaperone
Driver Requirements
Drivers will need to complete a school driver form, which includes:
Proof of current insurance
A photo of a valid driver’s license (front and back)
Drivers do not need to stay the entire time—even helping with pickup makes a big difference. Families are also welcome to ski (or not ski!) and spend the day at Eaglecrest if they choose.
Thank you for supporting this incredible opportunity for our students. With strong family involvement, we can maximize time on the mountain and make these days truly special. Classroom teachers will follow up with class-specific reminders as each date approaches.
Warmly,
Stay Curious
