Reading and Language Arts Websites

Our partners at Great Minds have created Knowledge on the Go resources to help keep our students stay ahead in their skills and Wit and Wisdom ELA lessons. Students will receive lessons taught by actual certified teachers.

Scholastic Learn At Home - A variety of learning resources for students of all ages designed to keep students reading, thinking and growing. It has a Shout Out section, which allows students to see what is new, including virtual author events through Scholastic Home Base.

Teacher Created Materials - Free Language Arts materials to support students kindergarten to sixth grade.

New York Public Library Storytime - Enjoy story time brought to you by children's librarians as they read books, sing songs, and share early literacy tips.

At Home Storytime Guides! Everything You Need to Get Started -The New York Public Library put together a guide for conducting story time at home. Each At Home Storytime guide follows a theme, and consists of songs with video links, video read alouds (or the option to use a book from your home library), plus two to three activities for you to try at home. There are 5 guides in English and 3 guides in Spanish.

LearnZillion -LearnZillion is making their full video collection available until schools can operate safely. Once an account is created, teachers can share or assign resources to students as needed. Lessons are broken down by grade level and standard.

Wilbooks-Free Online Books -Wilbooks has made available over 1,000 titles (both English and Spanish) online to read for free.


Authentic Activities

Create a Covid 19 Documentation and Journal - Collect newspaper clippings, take photos and caption them, make graphs with data points of the outbreak, interview family members and friends, log daily activities. This could be an online journal/notebook too if student has that capability. Video clips, links, etc. can be included.

Nature Notebook - Observe nature in your yard. Sketch and/or describe nature in your yard/neighborhood. Label your sketch. Research online to discover more about the things that were observed.

Activities K-1 ( May 4-15) - At-home activities that build critical thinking, comprehension, and writing skills.

ABC Mouse - Hundreds of fun and interactive games, each designed to teach a specific educational concept to students kindergarten to second grade.

Adventure Academy – Parents would have to pay for a monthly subscription. The first month is free.

Sesame Street-Caring for Each Other - Your friends on Sesame Street are here to support you during the COVID-19 health crisis, as families everywhere are creating a "for now normal." Children thrive with structure in their lives, and they learn best through play—even in everyday moments. So our site is filled with content you can use all day long to spark playful learning, offer children comfort, and focus a bit on yourself, too. After all, it's important that we take care of ourselves, so that we can best care for our families.

Math Websites

Bedtime Math- This organization's mission is to help kids love numbers so they can handle the math of real life. It is designed for students ages 3-9 (pre-K through 4th grade) Click on Daily Math for a quick bite of wacky math just for fun. There is a story and a math problem for Wee Ones, Little Kids, and Big Kids. The site also provides great suggestions for games to play at home. You can download the Bedtime app and MiniMath app for your phone. MiniMath gets students ready for Kindergarten. Both apps are available in English and Spanish.

Fun Brain - Find math games by topic or by grade at FunBrain. On this math site for kids, students can enjoy playing a variety of games that reinforce key mathematical concepts and engage young learners. Many of these games focus on a fun theme, like sports, animals or unique landscapes. Educational videos are also included, and there’s a special “Playground” with games suited to pre-K and kindergarten students.

Quantile Tools to Support Math - Quantile measures provide a scientific approach for matching students with ability-appropriate resources. Quantile measures help differentiate instruction and monitor growth in mathematics, putting students on the path to success in school, college and career.

The Math Learning Center - This site offers free printable PDFs of math concepts for K – 5th grades.The PDFs are available in English and in Spanish.

Zearn K-5 Mathematics - Zearn has made its entire curriculum, including 400 hours of digital lessons with on-screen teachers and supportive remediation, available for free. To access these materials, go to the Distance Learning Resource Center for: (1) Quick-start instructions for using Zearn Math programmatically as part of a distance learning plan ; (2)Parent/caregiver packs to send home to quickly orient to Zearn Math (in English and Spanish, more languages coming); and (3) Daily webinars for administrators, teachers, and parents to walk through quick-start instructions and parent/caregiver packs. Each webinar will offer ‘office hours’ with time for questions with our team.

Science Websites

National Geographic - The National Geographic Education website offers extensive, high-quality, standards-based resources relating to geography and other topics, such as world history, biology, oceanography, ecology, engineering, cartography, and current events. The classroom resources are divided up into two general areas: the Resource Library and the Mapping resources. The Resource Library is the heart of the educational materials. The Mapping resources are invaluable tools for classrooms of all grades.

Smithsonian Science Education Center - The Smithsonian Science Education Center website offers a rationale and a procedural outline for shifting science instruction within schools, districts, and even states to an inquiry-based approach. Colorful animation and age-appropriate tasks within the few kid-geared resources will engage and provide some learning.
