We finally get to perform! This Friday is our first high school football game, and our students are looking forward to putting on a good show for our friends and families. We hope to see you there! (details below)
Thank you to everyone who has adopted and used our new Absence Request Form! This has greatly streamlined our attendance process, and is hopefully making it easier for our students to communicate their challenges and conflicts.
We will have a special presentation this Thursday from Ms. Brittany Prater, an audiologist for Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Ms. Prater will be sharing ways that our students can protect their hearing, and we are privileged to have her!
Please note that there is a $30 course fee for Band. This fee has been added to your student account.
Dr. Quincy Hilliard is returning to Haynes!!!!! He will be working with our Beginning Band on Thursday Sept. 15, and will return to work with our other groups in the Spring. If you haven't yet had the chance to work with Dr. Hilliard, he is a wonderful musician and a great motivator for both students and teachers. He does an excellent job of working with every student no matter their level, and he definitely gets our students fired up about Band!
You can read more about Dr. Hilliard here:
Our Marching Band will continue to rehearse after school Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please stop by the Band Room to collect your music BEFORE rehearsal begins, so you will be prepared.

All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
Jazz Band One is our top Jazz performing group, focusing on performing challenging music at a very high level. We will rehearse after school Wednesdays. Students must be members in good standing of the Haynes Marching and Concert Bands to participate in Jazz Band.
We all have instruments now, and the sounds are pretty interesting :). This week we will begin focusing and refining our sounds, and before long we will be impressed with the progress that these young musicians have made.
We're pretty settled on our instruments now, and working toward our first performance of the year (at our Halloween Extravaganza in October). We can't wait to perform for you!
Jazz Band Two is our training group for younger or less-experienced musicians. We will focus on learning the basics of Jazz, and our music selections will be tailored to fit our younger players. Any Band student in good standing may participate in Jazz Band Two, regardless of instrument or experience. We also encourage our older members to experiment with secondary instruments in this group. Jazz Band Two will rehearse on Mondays beginning Sept. 12.
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
