A special THANK YOU goes out to all of our student and parent volunteers who helped to make these auditions run relatively smoothly! We could not have done it without your help!
(Do people say that any more?) ... Our Haynes Band Parent Group has set up an online store for our parents and supporters to purchase Haynes Band clothing and other items. A portion of these sales goes back to our program. Thanks!

We would LOVE to have our middle school musicians join us in the Marching Band! (This gives them the opportunity to play many fun songs at a very high level, and to learn from some of the best musicians in Louisiana!).
They are welcome to stay after school on Tuesday or Wednesday with us to see how things work, to meet some of our older members, and hopefully to have loads of fun playing their instrument! Please encourage your young musician to join the Marching Band, and contact Mr. Phelan with any questions.

We would like to have some of our student begin telling you about their experiences in Band. If your student might be interested in authoring a portion of our Class Updates, please contact Mr. Phelan. Thanks!
We're moving right along, and are playing five notes now! Our tone continues to improve, and this week we will be receiving one of our pieces for our Spooky October Concert! (It's on Tuesday Oct. 21 -- you don't want to miss it!)
We have begun working on a second piece for Spooky October, called "In Quest of Uluru" and we are already beginning to sound pretty good on it! Over the next two weeks we'll be having some sectional time, especially for our students who are auditioning for All State and Jr. High Honor bands.
(Spooky October, Veterans Day, and Holiday performances are all on the horizon)
Parents, please make sure to purchase the Essential Elements Books 1 and 2 for your student, so they do not fall behind. (We'll be using these books in class for reading practice and for many of their better exercises and pieces.)
We continued exploring The Entertainer, and spent some time looking at 12 bar blues. Rudiments, more on the Entertainer, and a small portion of our class will begin working on the Maple Leaf Rag for Spooky October! We'll also have some time to work on audition materials.
We'll be back to working on our marching music, marching fundamentals, and maybe even visiting our little neighbors again :). Some of our freshmen will be working on Jr. High Honor band audition music, and we hope to receive some new music this week for Spooky October.
Tuesday the horn line cleaned up drill for "I Have a Love." Wednesday, due to rain, we moved to our indoor practice facility. (aka the Black Box Theater) to begin learning drill to "Flasher." Our students had a fun time running into each other, but we managed to get more than half of our drill learned!
Our Percussion spent both days with Mr, Daniel learning to play Flasher, and we hope to put the pieces together this week. Please extend a big THANK YOU to Mr. Daniel for volunteering his time to work with our Percussion section!
Attendance is imperative at every Marching Band rehearsal. With seven rehearsals left until our first-ever Marching Festival performance, we must be pushing ourselves and each other to succeed.
As a reminder to our Marching Band students (and parents):
While we have total sympathy and support for your interest in other activities, it is Mr. Phelan's job to speak on behalf of the Band as a whole, and to insist on full attendance by every Band member at every rehearsal and performance. Thank you for ensuring that you (and your students) are in attendance at every Marching Band rehearsal and performance.
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Mr. Phelan
