What an amazing performance for the Magnet Bowl Pep Rally !!! We had our best performance so far this year, and we impressed everyone in attendance! Our students were enthusiastic but still musically focused, and we sounded great!
Our Marching Band delivered another solid performance Thursday night as we performed for the Magnet Bowl! We sounded great for the first half, sharing several of our favorite tunes with a very receptive crowd. Our drum line excited the Student Section with several of our cadences during half time, and then continued their fun performance in the stands!
During the second half of the game, we were joined by the Thomas Jefferson High School Band, and we played several tunes together! We had prepared both 'Buckjump' and 'Crazy Train' to perform together, and we were having so much fun that our combined drum lines ended up playing several cadences together, and our combined Bands actually shared music -- with each group sight reading music from the other group's folders! It was a fun time, and we all enjoyed the chance to meet our fellow musicians and share our music with them!
If you have any pictures or video from any of our performances or activities, please share them to the folder linked here. Thanks!

The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
Marching Band Pictures will take place Tuesday Oct. 3 during third period and lunch. Order forms will be distributed next week. All Marching Band students must come to the Band Room to be sized for their marching uniform, and everyone must wear black pants, shoes and socks. (This is also a friendly reminder that all Marching Band uniforms should be returned as soon as possible, please, ... after they have been cleaned, of course :)

All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
We encourage everyone to bring a disposable rain poncho or two, just in case.
Our updated dinner guidelines worked well this week. Thank you to our students for being flexible with our new arrangement! We'll be discussing next week's menu options soon!
Our Jazz Band is growing! We have filled out every section now, but we always have room for a few more musicians! We would love to have your student play with us Wednesday after school!
We put the FUN in fundamentals, and we are sounding really good! We got to meet and work with Mr. Matthew Wright this week, and we had a blast! We sight read a new piece, and our students sounded great!
We are continuing to work in smaller groups, allowing everyone to find their comfort zone. A few of our students are working on keyboards, others on snare, and some are preparing for District Honor Band auditions. We are happy to have a few new members in our class, and they are doing a great job as they catch up to the rest of us! Also, be sure to ask your student about our "Halloween Sound Effects" :)
If you have not done so, please make sure that your student has their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band book 1 and 2, for their specific instrument. We had another successful week in Beginning Band, and we continue to progress further into our books. We will be exploring ideas for Halloween soon!
Accents and Taps! (Now you know they can play soft ... when they want to :). We are progressing quickly!
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
