This weekend, our High School musicians will have the opportunity to audition for placement in the District Six Senior High Honor Band! The top performers at this event will then be invited back in two weeks to audition for this year's LMEA All State Bands!
This year's auditions will be held at Haynes, and we could use a few more adults to help direct students to their audition rooms, and to keep the coffee flowing for our area Band Directors :). Please sign up via the form linked below, or contact Mr. Phelan for more information.

We would LOVE to have our middle school musicians join us in the Marching Band! (This gives them the opportunity to play many fun songs at a very high level, and to learn from some of the best musicians in Louisiana!).
They are welcome to stay after school on Tuesday or Wednesday with us to see how things work, to meet some of our older members, and hopefully to have loads of fun playing their instrument! Please encourage your young musician to join the Marching Band, and contact Mr. Phelan with any questions.
On Sunday October 12, the President's Own Marine Band (one of the best Bands on this and many other planets!) will be performing at the East Jefferson High School Auditorium! The concert begins at 3:00, and tickets are FREE! (But, you must reserve them online, via the link below.). We encourage all of our students to attend this amazing performance by this outstanding ensemble!

We cleaned and sanitized our mouthpieces, learned the fifth note, and are making tremendous progress! We even have started having Student Conductors to begin our class each day! We'll start next week with a friendly competition between sections to see who was best able to play one of the tunes from the book, then our Tuesday class will get to meet Mr. Jon Gannon, our LPO Academy mentor teacher!
We explores Canticum a little more, worked on a few scales, and then we took a field trip all the way to the Fine Arts Building, to listen to Mr. Windham play and tell us about a few of his musical compositions!
(Spooky October, Veterans Day, and Holiday performances are all on the horizon)
Parents, please make sure to purchase the Essential Elements Books 1 and 2 for your student, so they do not fall behind. (We'll be using these books in class for reading practice and for many of their better exercises and pieces.)
We continued exploring The Entertainer, and spent some time looking at 12 bar blues. We'll jump back into rudiments next week to keep our hands moving, and we may pull out a second tune for Spooky October.
We got to play for our neighbors at Carousel Preschool, which certainly made their day (and ours, too :). We talked to their students through the fence, and then practiced some marching on the way back to the building. This week we'll be practicing for Sr. High auditions, and cleaning up the Band Room so it looks nice for this weekend.
We'll practice Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons until 5:30 as we prepare for our first ever Marching Festival! We'll be continuing to refine Bang Bang and I Have a Love, and will begin working on Flasher (our Percussion feature) this week! We only have nine rehearsals until the Marching Festival, so attendance is imperative at every rehearsal.
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Mr. Phelan
