Dr. Hilliard had some great things to say about our Beginning Band, and he is looking forward to returning in the Spring to work with our older students. Several of our older students were able to watch as Dr. Hilliard worked with our younger students, and learned lots about teaching new students. It would be great to see some of our talented students teaching Band one day!
Our Marching Band was again superb as we performed at Saturday's football game. From the Star Spangled Banner to the Alma Mater, we looked and sounded great. We even received compliments from some of the EJ folks!
If anyone has video or pictures to share from any of our performances, please add them to our google drive via the link below. Thanks!

Last (but certainly not least!), we will soon be holding a Dad's Day, to make some general repairs and upgrades to our trailer. If you are interested in breaking out the power tools and working on our trailer, please contact Mr. Phelan.
Our Marching Band will rehearse Tuesday and Thursday after school until 5:00. All students are welcome to participate.
Our next football game is Homecoming!!! -- Saturday, Sept. 24 @ Yenni Stadium (on the East Jefferson HS campus) -- this week we will be on the HOME side of the stadium.
6:00 -- arrive stadium and unload
6:30 -- walk together into the stadium
7:00 -- kickoff
9:30 -- load and dismiss (Please be prompt to pick up your student.)
We invite all parents and supporters to join us! (Please note the new ticketing guidelines for Jefferson Parish events, and plan accordingly.)
Please, please, please, ... we are in need of someone to pull our band trailer to and from this event. Please contact Mr. Phelan if you are available.

Our Oct. 8 football game has been moved to Thursday Oct. 6 at Pontiff Playground. We'll have more details for you shortly.
All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
Our students are especially excited for us to break out a few old favorites, including Happy Together, and Queen Opener :). Once we have those ready to perform, we'll be adding even more tunes!
Please note: Only Haynes Band students may sit in the Band section.
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
Jazz Band One is our top Jazz performing group, focusing on performing challenging music at a very high level. We will rehearse after school Wednesdays. Students must be members in good standing of the Haynes Marching and Concert Bands to participate in Jazz Band. This Band is on FIRE ! ! ! !
We learned lots from Dr. Hilliard, and we can't wait to begin putting this information to use! Please ensure that your student has their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band Book 1.
We've got our first four major scales, and now we will begin to work on the chromatic scale, and we're also peeking at the honor band etudes. We've even chosen one of our Halloween tunes, and our students are making steady progress.
Our Jazz Band Two rehearses every Monday until 4:45. Jazz Band Two is our training group for younger or less-experienced musicians. We will focus on learning the basics of Jazz, and our music selections will be tailored to fit our younger players. Any Band student in good standing may participate in Jazz Band Two, regardless of instrument or experience. Older students are welcome to join us, even on secondary instruments.
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
