Our Marching Band had a solid first performance at Thursday's football game! We are off to a wonderful start, and apart from a few communication errors, we had a strong first outing. We had a fun hangout with the EJ Band after halftime, and both groups enjoyed the opportunity to meet our fellow musicians. We are looking forward to being even better next week, and we hope to see everyone there to cheer us on! (Find full details below)
The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
Marching Band Pictures have been rescheduled, tentatively to Tuesday Oct. 3 during third period and lunch. We will have more details shortly, including order forms, picture options, etc.
We'll be joining the Thomas Jefferson Band for a couple of tunes after halftime this week! We hope you will be there to cheer us on! (Please note the required Marching Band uniform detailed below.)

All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
We encourage everyone to bring a disposable rain poncho or two, just in case.
To better protect our students, we are exploring dinner options that do not involve students walking through the neighborhood after school. We will have additional guidelines in place before next week's game. Feel free to email Mr. Phelan with additional comments or questions. Please complete the linked survey ASAP, so we may best accommodate everyone's situation.

Our Jazz Band continues to improve each week. We invite everyone to come out and play with us!
We spent this week doing lots of reading, and we are quickly improving! We found a neat piece about the Cumberland Gap, and may end up performing this in the Spring. Next week, we'll begin looking for something to play for our Halloween Concert in October :)
We spent lots of time on the keyboards this week, and our students are beginning to work in smaller groups according to their comfort level. This week we covered Under the Sea, a few Bach Inventions, and also a few fife and drum melodies from Colonial America! We'll be looking for music for our Halloween Concert next week :)
If you have not done so, please make sure that your student has their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band book 1 and 2, for their specific instrument. And, we have had some more Student Conductors! These students lead the class, so Mr. Phelan can sit in and assist other students as needed. We were also joined this week by Mr. Matt Wright! We had a great time learning from him, and we even got to learn the name of his trombone!
We wrapped up the week on the keyboards, working in the Key of C. We're progressing every day, and we can't wait to play for you soon!
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
