Please refer to our Calendar for a complete list of activities. Our Calendar is the most up-to-date information we have available.
Students may drop off their instruments in the Band Room before school, and pick them up at the end of the day. We will be working out a pass for students to leave class a bit early to enable them to pick up their instrument and not miss the bus.
For our parents and supporters who come out to cheer on our students at football games, we have a Varsity Football Season pass available this year for $40. (Regular admission to home games is $12 each.). Purchase yours via this link:
https://gofan.co/app/events/1054426?schoolId=LA69648
Please note that this pass is different than the student's All Sports Pass.
The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
We finally got to march outside, and it was a bit warm. But, our students pushed through and made lots of progress very quickly. Next week we will finish learning drill to "Happy Together" and we should be ready to march for you at our first football game on Sept. 7th!
Our first football game is Thursday, Sept. 7 @ Yenni Stadium (on the East Jefferson HS campus)
3:45 -- dinner (on your own)
5:00 -- students are seated in the Band Room
5:15 -- load busses and depart for the stadium
5:30 -- arrive stadium and unload
6:30 -- kickoff
9:00 -- depart for school (we will text you when we are leaving the stadium)
9:15 -- dismiss (Please be prompt to pick up your student.)
We invite all parents and supporters to join us! (Please note the new ticketing guidelines for Jefferson Parish events, and plan accordingly.). Also, any student wishing to leave from the stadium must be signed out by a parent. Please contact Mr. Phelan with any questions or concerns.
All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
To help with the not-quite-sorted-out pick-up line after our practices, we suggest that Band parents park behind the cafeteria, then exit toward the front of school. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the congestion we are all experiencing. Thanks for your patience as we sort out the little things!
All State Audition dates have been set (and are posted on our Calendar). Audition materials may be found via our Auditions tab.
All State Jazz auditions will be held Sept. 9 at Riverdale High School. There will be a $5.00 audition fee, collected at the audition site.
All State Concert and Symphonic Band auditions will be held Sept. 16, at Brother Martin High School. There will be a $5.00 audition fee, collected at the audition site.
Students should already have registered with Mr. Phelan via this form (also posted in their google classroom):

Our first rehearsal was fun, and we are off to a good start! We are young and inexperienced in a few sections, but we will work hard to produce another stellar Haynes Jazz Band! We invite ALL Band students to join us for Jazz Band on Wednesdays until 5:00 pm.
We have started to focus on our scales, and we are already starting to sound good as we work toward Honor band auditions. We began to explore a piece of music called "Ammerland" and we sounded pretty good on it, (especially for sight-reading!). We have to send a big shout out to our amazing clarinets, who sounded beautiful on this one! Great job!
We are also looking at scales (and more rudiments), and have begun working toward Honor Band auditions. We will be reading more each day, and soon will begin to explore some ragtime music!
We are all doing well for our first weeks of playing, and we'll soon be learning our first notes. You should be hearing your student practice a few minutes each day, as they build up their "chops" on the instrument. If you have not done so, please make sure that your student has their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band book 1 and 2, for their specific instrument.
We've been reading a lot this week, and exploring the keyboard percussion instruments, too! We have played a few basic songs, and we'll continue to challenge ourselves each week!
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Mr. Phelan
