We will begin Jazz Band rehearsals on Thursday Sept. 5, until 5:30 pm. Mr. Michael Genevay will again be working with our Jazz Band, and we appreciate his knowledge and enthusiasm!
Please note that we will move a few of our Jazz Band rehearsals to the preceding Monday, to accommodate our Thursday night football games. (See our Calendar for details.). Thanks in advance for your flexibility!
We had a fun first performance for the Back to School Pep Rally! We were a bit cramped on the stage, but we still sounded good and had lots of fun!
We had another fun and productive Band Camp! We braved the heat to learn some basic marching, and we also learned and performed three new tunes! Thank you to everyone for their flexibility, especially with getting all of our students picked up on time. Thanks, too, to everyone who came out to cheer on our students, especially Mr. Martin and Mr, Daniel, who volunteered their time and talent!
Please refer to our Calendar for a complete list of activities. Our Calendar is the most up-to-date information we have available.
The Haynes Band will again be partnering with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra to bring professional musicians to our classroom! Thanks to the wonderful LPO Academy program, this year we will be joined by LPO trombonist Austin Richardson!
Students may drop off their instruments in the Band Room before school, and pick them up at the end of the day. Students may not loiter in the Band Room before school.
The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
We ask all parents to fill out the Student Information Form on our website, to continue to receive our weekly-ish email newsletters. This will also allow you to include additional email addresses as needed. Thanks!
Our Marching Band has begun rehearsing after school, this semester on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 5:30. We will continue to learn tons of new music, and we aim to perform at halftime during fotball games. (Much of these practices will be OUTDOORS, so we encourage our students to eat and drink appropriately.)
Marching Band students will need solid black pants, solid black shoes, and their Haynes Band t-shirt for all performances.
All State Audition dates have been set (and are posted on our Calendar). Audition materials may be found via our Auditions tab. (Mr. Phelan will be happy to print any excerpts needed--just ask).
On Mondays, the Band Room will be open for extra audition help until 5:00.
Let Mr. Phelan know if your student would like to stay.
Students must register with Mr. Phelan by Aug. 28 via this form (also posted in their google classroom):

All State Jazz auditions will be held Sept. 21 at Riverdale High School.
All State Audition Workshop at Loyola will be held Saturday Sept. 7. This free workshop is geared toward our High School All State auditioners. We encourage all of those students to attend. See more information here.
All State Audition dates have been set (and are posted on our Calendar). Audition materials may be found via our Auditions tab. (Some etudes have not yet been posted. Check this page often as we are continuing to post the etudes as we receive them.)
Schedules are finalized (Thanks Mrs. Petty!). We are looking forward to several performances in the fall semester, including our Halloween Concert in October, and Middle School Band Night, where we get to sit in with the Marching Band! We're also reviewing our scales to help prepare for the upcoming auditions (All State in October, and District in December).
We've chosen our instruments, and are about to begin our musical journey. Thanks to Mrs. Petty for adjusting our schedules! Parents should have received from their student a "Welcome to Band" letter with lots of helpful information. Please email Mr. Phelan with additional questions.
This week, we'll be joined by Dr. Quincy Hilliard from UL Lafayette! He'll be making sure that we are off to a good start as we establish our basic playing positions and embouchures.
We are looking forward to showing off for you at the Halloween Concert in October!
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
