And now for something completely different, ...
To help coordinate our various parent-related activities during the school year (from football games to parades to our annual Taste and Tunes performance and meal), we will hold a brief Band Parent Meeting on Tuesday August 29, from 6:00 until 7:00 pm in the Haynes Band Room. We will share some of our past approaches, and welcome new ideas and input. We invite all of our parents and supporters to come out to this brief meeting, to help us continue to move our amazing Band program forward.
Please refer to our Calendar for a complete list of activities. Our Calendar is the most up-to-date information we have available.
Students may drop off their instruments in the Band Room before school, and pick them up at the end of the day. We will be working out a pass for students to leave class a bit early to enable them to pick up their instrument and not miss the bus.
For our parents and supporters who come out to cheer on our students at football games, we have a Varsity Football Season pass available this year for $40. (Regular admission to home games is $12 each.). Purchase yours via this link:

Please note that this pass is different than the student's All Sports Pass.
The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
Our first week of Marching band practice was fun and productive! Our students are already sounding good, and we even got to run "Happy Together" with our awesome Dance Team! We invite ALL students to participate in our Marching Band. Our first game is in three weeks, and we can't wait to perform for you!
To accommodate the new facility, practice will end at 5:00, and students will be ready for pick-up at 5:15.
Marching Band students will need solid black pants, solid black shoes, and their Haynes Band t-shirt for all performances.
All State Audition dates have been set (and are posted on our Calendar). Audition materials may be found via our Auditions tab.
All State Jazz auditions will be held Sept. 9 at Riverdale High School.
All State Concert and Symphonic Band auditions will be held Sept. 16, at Brother Martin High School. There will be a $5.00 audition fee, collected at the audition site.
Students must register with Mr. Phelan by Aug. 25 via this form (also posted in their google classroom):

We will begin Jazz Band rehearsals starting this Wednesday Aug. 23 until 5:00. We are again privileged to have Mr. Michael Genevay conducting our High School Jazz Band! Mr. Genevay brings a ton of knowledge, boundless enthusiasm, and some great stories, too! We invite ALL Band students to join us.
We are off to a great start! We improve every day, and we're having lots of fun, too! We are looking forward to our upcoming Halloween Concert!
We have been balancing our time between rudiments and keyboards, and are currently exploring chords and a bit of improvisation, in addition to our daily rhythm drills. We will soon begin to arrange a song to play for you!
It was our first day playing together, and everyone did GREAT! Thank you to everyone who has already secured an instrument for their student, and for also making sure that we each have our own copy of the Essential Elements for Band workbook. Having our materials will help us to be very successful this year!
We have been playing during our first week together, and we are already learning how to read music! Our new Percussion Room is great, and we can't wait to perform for you in October! (Rumor has it that we will soon be exploring all sorts of fun and interesting instruments from around the world!)
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
