School has begun! We're looking forward to another fun year with the Haynes Academy Band, and we're excited to have you with us on the journey! To help make our weekly emails more user-friendly, we will be breaking them up into sections, based on grade level and ensemble. (Thanks to the parents who suggested this change -- we hope this version helps!)
All students should have (or be in the process of acquiring) their own fully functioning Band instrument. Haynes Academy has a very limited selection of Band instruments to loan to students. These are available for a nominal fee rental fee (currently $30 per school year). Please contact Mr. Phelan to learn more.
All Haynes Band students must purchase their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band (Books 1 and 2). Please make sure to get the correct book for your student's instrument.
Please note that there is a $30 course fee for Band. This fee will be added to your student account once all schedule changes have been finalized.
Our Marching Band will rehearse after school Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting this week. Please stop by the Band Room to collect your music BEFORE rehearsal begins, so you will be prepared.
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt
Jazz Band One is our top Jazz performing group, focusing on performing challenging music at a very high level. We will rehearse after school Wednesdays, starting Aug. 24. Students must be members in good standing of the Haynes Marching and Concert Bands to participate in Jazz Band.

Welcome to the Haynes Band! We are looking forward to a fun and successful year, and want to share a few items that may help to answer some common questions.
The first step on our Musical Journey is for you to secure an instrument for your student. There are several fine music dealers in Jefferson Parish. We have included a partial list below for your convenience. If you have a family-owned instrument, that may also be a good choice. Mr. Phelan will be happy to inspect the instrument to determine if it will be suitable for your student.

Jazz Band Two is our training group for younger or less-experienced musicians. We will focus on learning the basics of Jazz, and our music selections will be tailored to fit our younger players. Any Band student in good standing may participate in Jazz Band Two, regardless of instrument. Jazz Band Two will rehearse on Mondays beginning Sept. 12.
