Whew!!! That was a busy few weeks :)
Thank You to everyone who came out to support our students! Every group played exceptionally well, and we all enjoyed hearing each other perform. A special Congratulations goes out to all of our award winners -- the Haynes Band Community would be a smaller place without you!
The final count isn't done yet (we're combining online and in-person tickets and donations, so it takes a bit of time), but we seem to have raised nearly $5,000 this year! Thanks again to everyone who helped to make this year's Taste and Tunes a success!

Congratulations to our Beginning Band for earning the Sweepstakes Award at this year's Jefferson Parish Superintendent's Large Ensemble Festival! The Sweepstakes award is given to groups who receive a grade of A (or 1) from every judge at the festival, and is the highest score possible! We are all extremely proud of our amazing young musicians!

Congratulations to our Jazz Band One (and their awesome Director, Mr. Michael Genevay) for earning the Sweepstakes Award at the Bill Evans Jazz Festival at Southeastern La. University in Hammond! We sounded GREAT! (and enjoyed dinner at Middendorf's on the way home :)
Another Congratulations to our Jazz Combo (Sam, Cooper, Zoe, Jack, Livy and Noah), who put together an additional program (including an original composition by Sam)! This group also earned a Sweepstakes Award, and we so impressed the judges that they literally joined us on stage for a half-hour jam session! This was an amazing afternoon for our young musicians!

Our Marching Band had a fun and rewarding experience as we shared our music with this year's Special Olympics Track and Field Event at Pontiff Playground! It is always a privilege to participate in this event, and our students performed well. Great Job everyone!

We are compiling a list of Musical Opportunities for our students. We encourage all of our students to explore some of these options -- they will learn so much, and get to meet other music students from Louisiana and beyond! If you are aware of other opportunities that we may have missed, please forward the information to Mr. Phelan, so we can update our lists.
Summer Drummin at Southern Miss
All South Drum Major and Color Guard Camp (@ USM)
Tigerland Auxiliary and Leadership Camp (@ LSU)
As a friendly reminder to our Seniors, please return all school-owned instruments and equipment at your earliest convenience, so we can get things ready for next year's Band.
Students may pick up their ordered shirts and sweatshirts at any time. Thanks to everyone who purchased a shirt, and who wears it proudly to show their support of the Haynes Academy Band!
No matter your school of choice, Band is one of the most fun and rewarding activities you can join. You will immediately make tons of new friends, find a "home" on campus, and become an active member of your school community from Day One. Most schools also offer some form of Band Scholarship for participating in Band. (Many of these scholarships are not related to being a Music Major -- instead they are focused on students who just want to PLAY FOR FUN!)
We have had several college Band Directors on our campus this year, and EVERY ONE of them has shared some of the benefits to our young people of playing music in college. From having an instant circle of friends, to fun activities, to all of the obvious musical and artistic opportunities, College Band is a great choice for students.
We strongly encourage all of our students to explore the musical offerings at your school of choice. Please contact Mr. Phelan if you would like additional information.
Great Job at Festival, and at Taste and Tunes! We have come a long way this year! A special Thank You goes out to all of our members who have learned new instruments to help us balance out our Band-- we couldn't have done it without YOU!
Please ensure that your student has their own copy of Essential Elements Book 2, so they do not fall behind. Remember: Focus on one measure at a time as you learn.
We invite our Middle School musicians to join us for Graduation practices on Tuesdays beginning April 18.
Congratulations on a very successful performance at Festival, and also at Taste and Tunes! We are off to a great start, and we will be even better next year!
Every student should have their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band Books 1 and 2, as well as a supply of reeds, valve oil, etc. Please let Mr. Phelan know of any instrument problems or concerns.
We invite our Middle School musicians to join us for Graduation practices on Tuesdays beginning April 18.
We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
