Congratulations to all of our students for a great Spook-tober concert last night!
Every group performed well, and we enjoyed sharing the stage with the Middle School Monster Choir and the Jackettes! Our emcee was quite entertaining, too :)
Our Beginning Band shone in their first performance! We are already establishing solid tones, and will continue to grow and improve.
6th grade Percussion was solid on both Aura Lee and our African medley, and they are maturing quickly as well.
The 7th and 8th grade Band was quite impressive! They displayed power and control on Lord of the Rings, and then had some fun with Thriller. They received the most compliments of any group last night :)
Middle School Percussion (with the Monster Choir) were OUTSTANDING on Spooky Scary Skeletons! They performed incredibly well, and it was fun to watch. Our accessory table performers were also quite entertaining, and made the whole tune even more fun!
The Monster Choir was also great! (thanks to Mr. Martin for bringing them to perform with us!) They were on pitch, with good diction, and obviously had FUN :)
Our Marching Band was once again confident, balanced and precise on the Danny Elfman Opener and Closer, and they relaxed and had fun with Time Warp and Toxic. They displayed a maturity of sound across all sections, and demonstrated for our younger musicians how a Band can and should sound. They were nothing short of amazing!
Since a few people have asked, ... the Danny Elfman Opener is comprised of music from "Spider Man" and "Tales from the Crypt." The Danny Elfman Closer includes music from "Edward Scissorhands" and "Beetlejuice."
The Jackettes always add lots of energy and excitement, and last night they did so once again. We are always happy to share the stage with them!
We received many more compliments on every group last night, and they were all well-deserved. But, most importantly, we enjoyed performing for YOU, our families and supporters (including some of our favorite alums -- thanks for coming out last night :). The biggest compliment we received last night was the standing-room-only audience! Your support gives us the courage to try harder, and we are grateful to you for being there for us!
Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on our young musicians, and we look forward to seeing you for our upcoming performances.
The Haynes Marching Band has been outstanding this year! We add tons of excitement to the game, and we look and sound good doing it. We've now marched for multiple halftime performances, and have received several compliments from parents and community members. Most importantly, we have loads of fun during the game, and we invite all of our middle school musicians to join us!
A special THANK YOU goes out to everyone who was prompt in picking up their student :)
Our next Marching Band performance will be Saturday Nov. 9 (weather permitting).

The Stately Oaks Music Festival is a multi-day camp designed for high school (grades 9 – 12) and middle school (grades 7 and 8) music students. Students will participate in large ensemble rehearsals, receive a group masterclass on their instrument, and have the exciting opportunity to engage with one of the LSU concert ensembles in an interactive rehearsal. Camp participants will also attend the LSU Collage Concert, which features students and faculty of the LSU Department of Bands and LSU School of Music and perform in a final concert of their own on Saturday afternoon, which will be free and open to the public.
Students interested in participating in the Stately Oaks Music Festival must be nominated by Mr. Phelan no later than Nov. 18. Please complete this form by Nov. 15 to be nominated.
More information about the festival can be found here.
Please refer to our Calendar for a complete list of activities. Our Calendar is the most up-to-date information we have available.
Students may drop off their instruments in the Band Room before school, and pick them up at the end of the day. Students may not loiter in the Band Room before school.
The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
We ask all parents to fill out the Student Information Form on our website, to continue to receive our weekly-ish email newsletters. This will also allow you to include additional email addresses as needed. Thanks!
