Here is a quick BONUS Newlstter, filled with all sorts of information learned at our most recent Band Directors' meeting.
Our Marching Band will rehearse Tuesday and Thursday after school until 5:00. All students are welcome to participate.
Our next football game is Thursday, Oct. 6 @ Pontiff Playground. -- we will be on the HOME side of the stadium. (times are approximate)
3:10 -- leave Haynes and walk to Pontiff
3:30 -- walk together into the stadium
4:00 -- kickoff
5:15 -- shared halftime with the Band from Sophie B. Wright (tentative)
6:30 -- walk back and dismiss (Please be prompt to pick up your student.)
This will be an afternoon game. We will be sitting in the hot sun for the entire game. We strongly encourage all students to wear sunscreen as necessary. Hats and sunglasses will be allowed in the stands, as long as they do not interfere with our ability to perform. Please refer to our Band Camp guidelines for additional warm weather suggestions.
We invite all parents and supporters to join us!
Students will walk from Haynes to Pontiff Playground, and then back to school after the game. (We will have our trailer to bring chairs and ice chests.)
Students may want to bring a snack to eat before the game. We'll have a quick break before we walk over to the stadium. Concessions will also be sold at the game.
Students are encouraged to leave all belongings at school.
Please note: Only Haynes Band students may sit in the Band section.
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
We will cancel Tuesday practice on Oct. 11, so our students may be rested for the PSAT on Wednesday. We will also cancel Jazz Band on Oct. 12, due to conflicts with the National Honor Society.
The University of Tennessee "Pride of the Southland Band" will be in town this weekend, as part of their participation Saturday at LSU's Tiger Stadium. The Pride will be rehearsing Friday 9-11 am at Joe Yenni Stadium (on the East Jefferson HS campus), and this rehearsal is free and open to the public! (This means that everyone is welcome to stop by and listen to one of the strongest Marching Bands in the country!). We encourage everyone to stop by and enjoy the sights and sounds of this 340 person group. Follow the link below to read more about the Pride of the Southland Band.

P. S. College Bands often travel to exciting destinations like Metairie to perform for football games and other events -- we encourage all of our students to continue to play music in college and beyond, even if they will major in something other than music. Band is one of the best ways to meet new people, have some fun, and earn additional scholarship money at the collegiate level. Contact Mr. Phelan if you would like more information on college music programs.
Loyola University is again hosting Col. John Bourgeois (retired conductor of The President's Own U. S. Marine Band) to host a two day workshop for our local musicians.

Tulane University will be hosting a Band Day for any interested students on Saturday Nov. 12. Students will get to spend the day with the Tulane University Marching Band, including performing at that day's football game. Contact Mr. Phelan for more information. This event is FREE.
Our District Marching Band Festival will be held Monday Oct. 24 at at Joe Yenni Stadium (on the East Jefferson HS campus). Admission is $10; you will be able to cheer on 13 local Bands, and enjoy an exhibition performance by the Tulane University Marching Band!
