It is never too early to begin exploring some of the musical opportunities available at virtually every University on the planet. Students are welcomed into University ensembles REGARDLESS OF MAJOR, and will likely receive additional scholarships in return for their participation. (If you are enjoying High School Band, you will LOVE College Band!). Mr. Phelan is always happy to assist with contacting the college folks, setting up an audition, etc.

All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
Please note: Only Haynes Band students may sit in the Band section.
All Marching Band students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
Jazz Band One is our top Jazz performing group, focusing on performing challenging music at a very high level. We will rehearse after school Wednesdays. Students must be members in good standing of the Haynes Marching and Concert Bands to participate in Jazz Band.
Please ensure that your student has their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band Book 1. We are preparing a few tunes for this year's Halloween Extravangza, including "Shark Attack !!!", "Rolling Along (Elm Street)", and possibly one other tune. Our students are growing quickly, and we are looking forward to performing for our parents and friends.
To help all students (but especially our Beginners), we encourage you to establish a Practice Routine. (same time, same location, every day). We have already established a routine in class (breathing, then the first notes, then new material), and we suggest that students follow that routine at home.
It is also much more fun to play for someone, so we encourage parents to stop by and listen to a few seconds of practice each day. Thanks for helping your young musician to succeed!
Our students continue to improve each day, and we are having fun! Our first piece for Halloween is called "The Tenth Planet", and we may add a second piece as well. We are off to a solid start, and can't wait to show off for everyone.
We are starting to have some competition in our classes, and we are pushing each other to get better each day. Band is the ultimate Team Activity, and we will continue to work together until everyone has reached their full potential. Please help us by pushing your student to improve daily. (See the Beginning Band note regarding a Practice Routine for some ideas on how your student can continue to grow and improve.)
We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Mr. Phelan
