All Band students are working toward our upcoming Halloween Extravaganza performance, featuring some fun (and spooky!) music. We will perform on Friday Oct. 28 at 6:30 in the Haynes Gym. We'll be sorting out costumes and other fun details over the next few weeks, and we invite everyone to join us for this fun concert!
Last (but certainly not least!), we will soon be holding a Dad's Day, to make some general repairs and upgrades to our trailer. If you are interested in breaking out the power tools and working on our trailer, please contact Mr. Phelan. Thanks to everyone who has reached out to help -- we'll likely schedule our Dad's Day just after the Christmas holidays.
Our Marching Band will rehearse Tuesday and Thursday after school until 5:00. All students are welcome to participate.
Our next football game is Thursday, Oct. 6 @ Pontiff Playground. -- we will be on the HOME side of the stadium. (times are approximate)
3:10 -- leave Haynes and walk to Pontiff
3:30 -- walk together into the stadium
4:00 -- kickoff
5:15 -- shared halftime with the Band from Sophie B. Wright (tentative)
6:30 -- walk back and dismiss (Please be prompt to pick up your student.)
This will be an afternoon game. We will be sitting in the hot sun for the entire game. We strongly encourage all students to wear sunscreen as necessary. Hats and sunglasses will be allowed in the stands, as long as they do not interfere with our ability to perform. Please refer to our Band Camp guidelines for additional warm weather suggestions.
We invite all parents and supporters to join us!
Students will walk from Haynes to Pontiff Playground, and then back to school after the game. (We will have our trailer to bring chairs and ice chests.)
All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
Please note: Only Haynes Band students may sit in the Band section.
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
Jazz Band One is our top Jazz performing group, focusing on performing challenging music at a very high level. We will rehearse after school Wednesdays. Students must be members in good standing of the Haynes Marching and Concert Bands to participate in Jazz Band.
Please ensure that your student has their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band Book 1. We will begin looking at our Halloween music this week (think SHARKS ! ! !)
Our students continue to improve each day, and we are having fun! Our first piece for Halloween is called "The Tenth Planet"
Our Jazz Band Two rehearses every Monday until 4:45. Jazz Band Two is our training group for younger or less-experienced musicians. We will focus on learning the basics of Jazz, and our music selections will be tailored to fit our younger players. Any Band student in good standing may participate in Jazz Band Two, regardless of instrument or experience. Older students are welcome to join us, even on secondary instruments. We are working on the jazz standard "St. James Infirmary," and may even include it on our Halloween Extravaganza!
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
