The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
Marching Band Pictures will take place this Tuesday Oct. 3 during third period and lunch. Order forms have been distributed, but we do have a few extras (in the unlikely event that one of our students misplaced their first one :). One of our photo options will be a "Composite Picture" of the entire Marching Band, similar to this image. If you would like to purchase a Composite, please simply write in "Composite" on your order form. The cost of the Composite Picture is $25.00.)
All Marching Band students should already have come to the Band Room to be sized for their marching uniform, and everyone must wear black pants, shoes and socks for the pictures. (This is also a friendly reminder that all Marching Band uniforms should be returned as soon as possible, please, ... after they have been cleaned, of course :)
Our Marching Band will perform for the Prospective Students' Open House on Wednesday Oct. 18. This is a great opportunity for us to introduce ouselves to potential new members! We'll have more details as this event draws closer.
Our next football game is Thursday, Oct. 5 @ Pan American Stadium (in New Orleans' City Park)
4:45 -- dinner (see new guidelines below)
5:30 -- students are seated in the Band Room
5:45 -- load busses and depart for the stadium
6:15 -- arrive stadium and unload
7:00 -- kickoff
9:30 -- depart for school (we will text you when we are leaving the stadium)
9:45 -- arrive at school and unload
10:00 -- dismiss (Please be prompt to pick up your student.)
We will be seated on the VISITORS SIDE of the stadium for this event.
We will again be parterning with the Band from Sophie B. Wright School to share some music, and make some new friends. We invite all parents and supporters to join us! (Please note the new ticketing guidelines for Jefferson Parish events, and plan accordingly.). Also, any student wishing to leave from the stadium must be signed out by a parent. Please contact Mr. Phelan with any questions or concerns.
All students are welcome to join us for Marching Band. They may not be able to play every note or rhythm, but they will learn lots from the older students, and will have a great time, too! (Students must attend all practices to participate in the football games.)
All Marching Bands students must have the following supplies and uniform items:
Flip Folder (with extra pages)
Black calf length socks
Solid black shoes (no colors or logos should be visible)
Haynes Band t-shirt or sweatshirt
Black pants
We encourage everyone to bring a disposable rain poncho or two, just in case.
Our updated dinner guidelines worked well this week. Students should choose their entree thru the form in google classroom. Please send $3.00 per entree ordered. Also, we are requesting that every student bring one 2-liter drink of their choice and a pack of plastic cups to share. (We'll keep the leftovers for our remaining football games or Taste and Tunes in the Spring.)
Jazz Band continues to improve each week! We are looking forward to playing for you soon!
We received our first piece for our Halloween concert (Fire Dance) and we really like it! We will be picking another piece next week, and we are getting excited to perform for you! (Next week, we'll discuss costumes :)
We've begun to work on "Pirates of the Caribbean" as we prepare for our Halloween concert -- this one is fun but challenging! We hope you will enjoy it!
If you have not done so, please make sure that your student has their own copy of the Essential Elements for Band book 1 and 2, for their specific instrument. We will receive our Halloween music next week (hint ... it involves a big, hungry fish ...)
We have also received our first Halloween piece -- Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter! You're going to love it!
Please visit our Calendar for all the latest updates, and feel free to contact Mr. Phelan at any time with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Mr. Phelan
