We are looking forward to performing again for the Krewe of Mad Hatters! To help make our performance even more successful, please visit our Parade Details page. Please note that we are requesting updated Medical Forms for all participating members.
Congratulations to Ian Anderson (trumpet) and Livy Best (bass), who were selected by audition to this year's District Six Senior High Jazz Honor Band! They will join All State saxophonist Cooper Belletto for a fun weekend of Jazz in March, culminating with a performance at the New Orleans Jazz Museum! We are very proud of all of you!
Our 6th grade Band class got to meet composer Arlene Sierra, who was in town to work with the LPO! She shared some of her compositions with us, and our students had lots of great questions for her. Thanks to the LPO for including our students in Mrs. Sierra's tour! Learn more about Arlene Sierra here: https://arlenesierra.com

We're already working on this year's Taste and Tunes performance, and WE NEED YOU to help make it the best one yet!
We ask everyone to visit our Taste and Tunes Involvement Form. Please volunteer for one or more positions, so we can get things moving!
Learn more on our Taste and Tunes web page, and check back often as this page will be continually updated.
The Haynes Academy Band charges a $30 annual fee, which covers the purchase of music, transportation, etc. This fee has been posted to student accounts. Please contact Mr. Phelan with questions or concerns.
That's not a typo -- we're already looking ahead to Band Camp next July! In order to help everyone plan their summer vacations (and to hopefully increase our Band Camp participation!) we have tentatively scheduled Band Camp 2024:
July 22-23 (Monday and Tuesday) = Percussion Camp
July 24 (Wednesday) = Drum Corps at USM in Hattiesburg
July 25-26 (Thursday and Friday) and July 29-31 (Monday-Wednesday) = Full Band Camp
We have no other details yet, including location or times, but we ask that you make every effort to have your students at Band Camp on all of those days. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
Haynes Band T-shirts and Sweatshirts have arrived! Please send payment ASAP so we can send yours home. We did order a few extras, so contact Mr. Phelan to get your student the most stylish shirts on campus!
Spring practices will run until 5:30, so we may be prepared for parades and festivals.
Tuesday and Thursday practices this week will be outdoors, working on all four of our marching pieces (Crazy Train, Locked Out of Heaven, Confident, and Hey Baby).
We are shifting toward an Attendance Policy for all rehearsals, to further encourage our students to organize their time efficiently. Please note that COMMUNICATION IS KEY when resolving scheduling conflicts. Parents, we ask that you help your students to plan ahead, and to address conflicts as soon as they arise. This is a great skill for "the real world"!!!
Any student with instrument or flip folder concerns should handle that TODAY, to give us time to work out any necessary problems.
All Marching Band students should have been fitted for a uniform jacket, and should have that number recorded with Mr. Phelan. If your student has not yet been fitted, please encourage them to come during lunch to do so. We have a limited number of sizes, and all the good ones are going fast!
Also, students must have solid black shoes, socks, and pants to march in this year's parade. If you still haven't gotten these items, please do so.
ALL Marching Band students are asked to bring another case of water for our upcoming parade. (Anything that doesn't get used during practice or during the parade will be used for our Special Olympics performance or even at Taste and Tunes, so feel free to bring extra!)
Our Jazz Band will continue practicing this Wednesday until 5:00 pm, as we begin to prepare for the Bill Evans Jazz Festival at SLU in Hammond.
Our Jazz Vocalists will also be practicing on Mondays until 5:00 pm. (Thanks for putting in the extra time and effort!)
During this week we were introduced to a conductor who came from London named Ms. Sierra. She showed us some of the pieces of music that she had made. We got free tickets to see the LPO concert and see Ms. Sierra play.
